First of all, one should not think that the Church abhors the topic of conceiving a child, as if believers consider it something vile, shameful, which is not subject to wide discussion, and if it is discussed, then only from the position of condemnation. Not at all. Indeed, this topic is rarely widely discussed in the Church, not because it is very obscene, but on the contrary, because it is too sublime. The Church treats the moment of conception with due reverence and just like that, casually, will not discuss this topic.

At the moment of conception of each person, God is always present, giving the soul to a little man, whose body at that moment consists of only one cell, resulting from the merger of two parental cells. The presence of God at the moment of conception does not allow one to treat it as a vile act, which takes place in the dark. Only one thing is vile - fornication, which has little to do with pure marital union, blessed by God. Fornication does not aim at conception, while, as a rule, contraceptives are used, and for fornicators the presence of God at the moment is clearly superfluous.

The question of whether marital union is something bad arose already among the first Christians. The Apostle Paul writes in one of his epistles: Marriage is honorable and the bed is not bad". Of course, this refers to the marriage bed of legal spouses, and not the bed of fornicators or traitors. Another evidence, now from the fourth century. At this time, people appeared who said that a priest should not have conjugal communion with his wife, and some even refused to take communion with these priests. Again, the Church testified with all clarity at the Council of Gangra, in response to this error, that those who abhor married priests, believing that marriage defiles them, are themselves excommunicated as heretics.

They were already elderly, but did not have children, for which people accused them of some secret sins, for which the Lord allegedly does not give them children. And after another humiliation, the spouses tearfully prayed for the removal of this reproach from them. After this fervent prayer, the Lord sends them a child - the Mother of God. So, the righteous spouses pray for the gift of a child to them, they pray before conception.

This prayer is not uncommon. Prayer before conception was on the lips of many righteous spouses. For the first time, a prayer before marital union is given in the book of Tobit, in the 8th chapter. This book was written long before the birth of Christ, so we can say for sure that the tradition of praying before conception has more than two thousand years of history. And now believing spouses are trying to pray before conceiving a child. A child conceived after such a prayer will be sanctified in the womb from its very conception.

The distribution of sins over individual stages, of course, is somewhat arbitrary, it is only necessary for some systematization of sins, and sins conditionally assigned to one stage may very well be present at any stage of family relations.
