You can buy a feeder in a hypermarket, or you can make it yourself in a few hours. A plywood feeder can be made open, with a flat or gable roof, provide a bunker compartment if you cannot constantly monitor the amount of feed in the feeder. Of course, you will need drawings, fortunately, there are plenty of them on the Internet with ready-made sizes of parts for cutting out. Choose a design that you like, the drawing will make the work easier and ensure that in the end you get exactly what is shown in the photo.

Lightweight and durable plywood feeder

When choosing a drawing of a future feeder, take into account the bird population of your region. Jays, pigeons and magpies can eat all the food, leaving little titmouses hungry. To prevent this from happening, make the size of the trough openings so that large birds cannot get to the feed.

First of all, we mark and cut holes on opposite sides of the tetra pack. To make it convenient for the birds to take food and fly out. You can make a feeder out of two juice bags. Cut the first bag along the narrow sides, leaving the top uncut. Cut off the third part from the second tetra pack and cut a hole on the front side of the bag - this will be the stern board or the bottom of the feeder. We combine the bottom with the first bag so that we get a triangle. The parts can be connected with glue, wrapped with tape, or by piercing the bottom of the sides, insert the cocktail tubes.

Let's consider some variations of making a do-it-yourself feeder from a plastic container.

Option number 1. The simplest feeder

Symmetrically, on both sides of the bottle, cut out two holes: round, square, rectangular or in the form of an arch. Bridges should remain between the holes. If you make a slot in the form of an inverted letter "P" and bend the plate upwards, you get a rain shade. You can stick adhesive plaster or fabric tape on the bottom edge of the hole - the edges will not be sharp and the birds will sit comfortably. In the lower part we make symmetrical holes and insert a stick - the result is a feeder with a perch.

You can attach such a dining room for birds on a tree by tying the jumper with tape, rope or other suitable material, as seen in the photo. If you make a hole in the bottle cap and insert the ends of the twine, and then tie them into a knot, you will get a loop that can be thrown over the branches of garden trees.

Option number 2. Bunker feeder.

This design is rational in use in that the feed can be poured with a reserve for several days. The feed, as the birds eat it, will automatically be poured onto the feed platform by itself.

You will need two bottles of the same displacement. We mark one bottle with a marker before cutting. At the bottom we make holes, as in the trough No. 1, and remove the upper third of the bottle. In the second bottle we cut several holes at the narrowest part - food will spill out of them. Do not make large holes at once, it is better to widen them later. We put food in the bottle, twist the cork and insert the bottle into the first bottle cut by a third.

We make a hole in the cork and insert the string for hanging. Then symmetrically make two holes to fit the spoon. Cut a hole in the bottle above the bowl-shaped deep part of the spoon, slightly widening it so that the birds can take food. We fill the feeder and hang it up.

Advice. Use a hot needle or small nail to make a few holes in the bottom of the trough to drain any moisture that has got inside.

Probably in every home there is an empty plastic five-liter water bottle. It is very simple to make a feeder in one evening for feeding birds in winter from this material. Such a capacity will hold much more food than a smaller plastic bottle, as you can see in the photo. Several holes will allow you to conveniently feed several birds at once.

This is a very simple and quick option, invite your children or other family members to take part in the making process: find a ribbon or wire to tie the finished feeder to a tree branch, prepare a treat for the birds. Prepare a clean bottle, sharp knife, pruner, or utility knife.

We cut the hole based on how we plan to fix the container on the tree:

horizontally - cut a wide hole from the side of the bottom of the bottle and the same one from the side of the neck;
vertically - at a height of 5-7 cm from the bottom of the container, we cut several square holes or three rectangular ones.

Everything is simple here. We take a dense shoe box with a lid. We make a round hole in the lid. The hole needs to be shifted slightly from the center to the bottom edge of the box (slightly different in the photo), this is necessary so that the birds can get to the food, which will lie at the bottom of the box.

In the upper part of the box we make a small hole and insert a tourniquet or rope there. We attach an old pencil or stick to the end of this rope. Then we will tie the other end of the rope to the branch of the tree on which we plan to hang the feeder. Then you can wrap the box with wrapping paper, but this is for the aesthetic component, you don't have to.

We make a roof from ordinary cardboard and put it on glue. Next, we glue the lid to the box itself with adhesive tape, as in Figure 3, 4, and we also pass a rope through the lid.

At the moment when we hang the finished feeder on a tree, the roof may come loose from the box, but this is not scary, it will not be able to get away from anywhere. the rope will hold it.

And in the picture below, an even simpler version of a shoebox feeder. But there is no need to explain anything, everything is already visible in the photo. The whole box is simply rewound with tape, which, by the way, is very practical. And in our opinion it turned out - original and unusual.

To make a poultry dining room with your own hands, the simplest material that is stored in abundance on the balconies of most families will fit: boxes from electrical goods, cardboard packaging from food. Choose a thicker cardboard with a laminated coating, the laminate will slightly increase the service life of the feeder. Although, as written above, you can use wide tape for these purposes. The advantage of this design is that there is already a bottom, walls and a roof of the future feeder, which needs to be slightly modified by cutting square or rectangular holes on the sides.

Since cardboard is a very short-lived material and is afraid of moisture, a ready-made feeder wrapped with tape will last until next season. Put sand or some pebbles at the bottom so that the structure does not sway strongly with the wind.

You can do it a little differently. We glue the lid of the box perpendicularly so that the lid serves as a stern stand, and the second part of the box serves as a side and a roof. We glue the structure with tape. We make two hooks from the wire: bend a piece of wire in half and pierce the “ceiling” of the feeder with the ends, twist and bend it from the inside. Although winter in recent years has not been distinguished by a harsh disposition, food for birds is still not enough at this time of the year. The birds willingly flock to the offered treat, and you can watch the titmouses, bullfinches, sparrows near for hours.

Especially children are fascinated by it. I still remember my own childhood impressions: I could not be taken away from the window. Dad then made a small, unpretentious wooden feeder from slats and scraps of plywood, and sparrows always crawled around it, sometimes bullfinches flew in. And for the tits we hung a piece of fresh bacon. Last year I myself tried to build something similar, but my carpentry skills were not enough - it turned out to be something not very strong and slightly lopsided.

The easiest way, of course, is to use all the known options - to cut the feeder from a cardboard bag (from milk or juice) or a plastic bottle:

1. A feeder without a roof - the simplest design

Making the roof for the bird's canteen is, in my opinion, the most difficult part of the job. So, if you, like me, are not sure about your building skills, you can try to start by offering the feathered guests of the garden a treat on simple wooden tray.

A piece of plywood, four thin sticks as sides (so that the grain is not blown away by the wind) and a rope for attaching to a branch - the trough is ready! And a very simple option is to fix an ordinary plastic tray on some stable surface (they often pack sweets, cookies, vegetables in stores):

Big minus such a feeder - it is in no way protected from snowfalls and winds. So this is more likely not a "canteen", but a small "buffet" for birds. It will be useful as a temporary "food point" - in the event that you are at the dacha very rarely in winter, and there is still no one to fill the feeder regularly.

2. Wooden feeder with a flat roof

This option is more difficult, but not much. Even I successfully coped with the task of attaching four posts to the base of the trough - supports for the roof. Then it only remains to pin down or secure with screws from above another piece of plywood (it is better if it is slightly larger in size than the base of the feeder). Such an elementary roof will serve as a small, but still shelter from snow and rain.

Minus design: On a flat roof, snow lingers, the feeder may become too heavy and break off or break off the branch on which you secured it. So it is better to put it on a strong pole or other reliable support, and periodically clean off the snow from the roof.

Another simple and easy to implement idea. True, lately I have rarely come across such nets (we used to sell tangerines in them), but I think if you look, you will find them.

And then it’s quite easy (well, if you believe what I read in different sources). If someone tried to make such a feeder, please share your impressions: how simple it is, how convenient it is, and how birds relate to such a treat.

So, the grain (or grain mixture) is thoroughly mixed with melted bacon ( in no way salty!) or peanut butter. A ball is rolled out of the mixture, placed in a net and suspended. Everything! The fat freezes in the cold and keeps food, which the birds then gradually peck out. I came across an option without the fatty "filler":

5. Coconut trough

True, as far as I know, it is very solid, and it is not so easy to deal with it, but if this does not scare you, take a closer look at the idea. A natural, environmentally friendly feeder will delight the birds and decorate the garden. It is more convenient to fill it with the same mixture of fat and grain that was prepared for the mesh feeder. And you don't have to gouge holes in the whole nut - you can use half a coconut shell as well.

6. Feeders made of metal mesh

Such designs can often be found in stores, but for a good master, I think it will not be difficult to make such a feeder with your own hands, especially since the material is quite affordable.

The size of the structure and the details of the structure are at your discretion. However, the trough should obviously not be too large in diameter. But in its height, perhaps, it is worth making a little more - so that several birds can feed at once. Of course, you will need a roof (removable - to fill the grain inside) and a base - so that the food does not spill out.
