Business onions. How to grow onions for feathers in a greenhouse in winter and make money on it - a detailed business plan. Hydroponics: Profitable For Growing For Sale

Forcing onions in a greenhouse is not a profitable business for the lazy. A banal story - “I'm tired of working for my“ uncle ”and I want to work for myself, especially since I have my own free plot. Which either already has a greenhouse, or you can build one. " Further a matter of technology. Find the most suitable type of business on the Internet, read different business plans and here it is - the solution, to forge an onion feather. After all, according to advisers from the Internet, this is a miracle business, where you can make good money in a short time with a small area. Profitability is off the charts, which means it's time to get down to business.
Yes, in the last one you are definitely right. Now is the most cherished time when it is really time to start casting onions on a feather. Forcing of onion feathers is carried out in the cold season from the head of onion, which is on time in the same summer as well. The term for growing onion feathers depends on the region. On average, forcing onion feathers lasts for several months - September, October, November, December, January, February, March and even April.

If you decide to engage in forcing an onion feather, then read my note to the end. And maybe this venture will leave you. Or maybe vice versa, it will stimulate you to action. I have been forcing the pen for more than five years, and everything I write and advise is backed up by personal experience.

The video shows a harvest of green onions, which are ready for harvest. Such results are waiting for you too.

Is forcing onions on a feather right for me?

Immediately substantiate the nuances with dividing this item into "worth it" or "not worth it."

  • if you have your own plot, which is owned
  • you live on this site or it is as close as possible to you
  • the site is guarded and there are all the necessary communications: electricity, water, gas (not a prerequisite)
  • there is a greenhouse on the plot
  • if there is no greenhouse, but there is free finance for its construction
  • there are free funds for the purchase of the first batch of planting material
  • you have people who are ready to help at any time
  • you do not work for an "uncle" or are ready to be fired
  • do you have personal transport
  • you are not a lazy person

Not worth it:

  • the plot is planned to be rented
  • the plot is more than 10 km away from you
  • there is no light or water on the site
  • you plan to hire transport
  • you plan to borrow or borrow money for the greenhouse and the purchase of planting material
  • you work for your "uncle", but it's scary to take risks and quit
  • they are ready to help you only for "adequate" wages
  • you are a lazy person

I think the idea is clear and many will agree with this. It turned out that most of the points "not worth it" coincide with the position, it is better to abandon this venture. In addition to loss, debt and disappointment, it will bring nothing. If all is well and you have decided that forcing onions on a feather suits you in all respects, read on.

In order to start making green onions, your greenhouse must be properly equipped. Since onion feathers are driven out to a greater extent in winter, it should have as little heat loss as possible. The better the greenhouse cover for forcing onions, the lower the cost of its maintenance. There is no need to overpay for heating the air. Well, this is so logical, I will not focus on this.

Racks are more responsible for controlling growth in the process of forcing onion feathers. They must be mandatory. What to construct them from depends on you and your financial situation. This nuance should be taken into account based on the understanding that first of all the air is heated in the greenhouse, and then the earth. The latter heats up much longer. But if forcing onions on a feather proceeds on the shelves, then the bulb gets heat much faster and begins to germinate. Then you can always control the growth of green onions. If you need to speed up the distillation, add more heat. If you slow down growth, you lower the temperature. Of course, you can resort to such manipulations with a bow on a feather only after a while, having gained the necessary experience.

Racks for forcing feathers, personally, I recommend making them in two tiers. But if there is absolutely trouble with the area in the greenhouse, it is possible at three, and sometimes even at four. It should be taken into account that the more tiers, the smaller the gap between them. The bow will lack light and will be faded. What will affect the demand and price for. Artificial lighting of each tier is certainly justified, but it incurs additional costs for the installation of the lighting itself. Thus, increasing the cost of the grown green onions. Make sure the racks are not too wide. The wider the rack, the harder it will be to plant the onions. The speed of planting planting material and harvesting green onions plays an important role in the forcing process. The central rack, which can be approached from all sides, is made wider, and the side shelves are narrower - on an outstretched arm.

Heating for forcing feather onion

The main process of forcing onions on a feather takes place at temperatures from +11 to +25. The temperature depends on the capability of the heating source. Definitely, the gas boiler in the greenhouse is the leader in these indicators. But, not everyone has the opportunity to bring the gas itself into the greenhouse. Personally, I have a buleryan in my greenhouse - an air heating stove. And with the right approach, it does quite well.

There must be a possibility of ventilation in the greenhouse. The humidity should not be too high. And coupled with stagnant air, this is a strong blow to the green onion crop. Onions on a feather categorically do not tolerate stagnant air. It must circulate constantly. An ordinary household fan, directed at an angle of 45 degrees relative to any wall, will help to cope with this task. It consumes little energy, so it is not costly. If there is no circulation in the greenhouse, at the stage of forcing the feathers of the onions 2/3, with 100% certainty, the feathers of the green onions will start and. This is especially noticeable at the corners.

Do you want to tickle your nerves? ..., do not open windows and doors, suddenly the heat will go away. At the same time, tell me later in the comments what came of it.
The greenhouse should be supplied with fresh air twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. To do this, just open the door and window for five minutes. In cold weather, only the door, with the fan on for 10 minutes. You don't need to worry about the heat, the oxygen heats up very quickly. So forcing the onion on the feather will proceed as usual.

Water for watering onions on a feather

There are no requirements as such. should be, and how you will implement it depends on you. Nevertheless, I will give some recommendations. If you watched my videos, you noticed that I have two water tanks. Plastic "eurocube" for 1 cube of water and a plastic barrel for 200 liters. In the first, I have regular water, which is filled immediately after watering. This allows the water to warm up until the next watering. In the second, I dilute potassium permanganate and phytosporin for preventive watering. They are interconnected by a wiring of plastic pipes, on which valves are installed for adjustment.

Multi-bud onion on a feather for planting

The guarantee of the very profitability of the business is a variety of onions for a feather. There are some characteristics of the onion varieties that must be suitable for the forcing of the onion feather. Experienced bow breeders tend to use the multi-bud and multi-nested bow on the feather. To achieve this goal, some surf the vastness of our vast country in search of a supplier, others take risks and order suitable varieties remotely from other regions. I do not recommend that you start with such risky actions.

To begin with, I advise you to buy a feather onion at the nearest wholesale markets or bases. You can also use popular message boards. They often offer to buy a multi-pronged onion for a feather at a good price. There are some popular varieties that make forcing onions more profitable. This is achieved by increasing the percentage of pen output per square meter. Thus, choosing the right multi-pronged onion for a feather will increase your profits. The top three that I recommend finding and buying feather onions include the varieties Karatalsky, Rostovsky local, Stuttgarter Riesen, Egyptian and Chalcedony. About these varieties, I wrote a separate note that I recommend reading -.

Photo: Multi-bud onion on a feather

There is also a variety of multi-pronged onions for a feather - Rostovsky. But how much I am telling the truth, I myself do not know. I came across this variety only once. According to the appearance and reviews of fellow onions' colleagues, whom I asked, it was him. The result is simply excellent. Unfortunately, I never got to see him again. But, if you suddenly run into this bow, take it without hesitation. Of course, we do not forget to look at the quality of the bulbs. The onion should be intact, with no signs of rot. When cut healthy, juicy and white. The presence of blackness, and the softness of the root bottom, indicates the contamination of the planting material. It is impossible to take such a bow even for the “cap of crackers”. Having infected a greenhouse with one batch of onions, sometimes you can forget what forcing onions on a feather for the whole season is.

The caliber of the bow on the feather in turn affects the planting speed. If you take samples of onions with a caliber of 2-4 cm, the feather will be thin and plant it longer. And if you buy a turnip on a 5-10 cm feather, the feather will be thicker and plant faster.

Preparing and soaking onions on a feather

Before you start planting, you need to prepare the onion. After all, you want the forcing of the onion on the feather to take place evenly, right? There is nothing complicated. The main thing is to cut the neck of the onion and soak it before planting. It is best to cut the neck of the turnip by 1/4 - 1/3 with a knife and without regret. Thanks to this, the feather of the onion will start growing more evenly. Even if at this moment you damage the already green rudiments of green onions, do not worry. A few weeks before harvest, you will forget that the tips of the onion feathers have been damaged. All wounds will heal and the presentation of the feather of the bow will be excellent.

Photo: Soaking onions
After the onion is all cut off, just before planting,. It is advisable to do this in warm water with the addition of potassium permanganate. When soaking, water should not exceed +50 degrees. Warm water and potassium permanganate will additionally disinfect the planting material. And the warm water itself will contribute to the additional awakening of the onion turnip and give a start to the formation of the root system. You can soak onions from an hour to a day. It all depends on the planned speed of forcing the feather. The faster the preparation and planting of the onion is carried out, the faster the forcing of the onion on the feather will begin.

Substrate for forcing onion feathers

Forcing onions on a feather can be carried out on any available substrate. The substrate is a kind of soil into which the onion turnip will take root. The main and most popular are: of course, the garden soil itself, loose compost or humus, as well as sawdust. For beginner guides, of course, it is worth starting to drive green onions on ordinary soil or humus. Yes, it's dirty and you will have to try to work cleanly, but for that for sure. And when you gain experience, you can switch to sawdust. Then the forcing of the onion feather will proceed in a pure mode.

The substrate is poured onto the shelves of the shelves. The thickness of the layer is usually 5 cm. That is, the sides on the shelves should not exceed more than 6 cm. 5 cm substrate and 1 cm as a support for the extreme turnip of the onion. So that, while the onion is without roots, it does not roll off. Of course, you can make the layer thicker, but this does not justify the labor costs. The thicker the substrate layer on the racks, the heavier it will be after each watering. The onion roots are 5 cm thick, more than enough for the normal process of forcing the feathers. It is advisable to put a film under the substrate. But not kissing. In some places, it is advisable to pierce the film with a small nail or knitting needle, thereby forming very small holes. This will allow you to "leave", and not stagnate excess moisture during watering.

Bridge planting onions on a feather

Planting onions on a feather using a bridge method is the most tedious and monotonous process. The bridge method for planting onions on a feather is by placing the bulbs on the beds side by side. As close as possible, picking up the bulbs so that there is as little empty space as possible between the bulbs. On the first plantings, it takes too long. But this is at first, when you focus on correctness. With experience, the selection of bulbs takes place automatically and the planting speed of onions increases significantly. This method of planting turnip onions for growing green onions can significantly save usable space in the greenhouse. The usable area is the allotted area in which it is planned to cast the onion onto the feather. This concept does not include paths and other areas for servicing onion racks.

Calculation of the yield of a bow feather from 1 square meter

When planting onions, you can calculate the required amount of planting material in advance. Experience shows that 1 sack of onion is used per 1 square meter. Big red bag - Chinese. Depending on the type of onion, in one bag from 25 to 30 kg of onions. With a feather caliber of 5-8 cm and correct planting, about 400 bulbs are placed per 1 square meter. Exactly as in the bag. I do not pretend to be a basis, but I get exactly this kind of landing arithmetic. And as a rule - true. Inaccuracy + - 10% of the planned amount of onions for planting. Which is negligible. Thus, using the bridge planting method and certain varieties, the yield of green onion feathers per 1 square meter varies from 25 to 60%. Where 25% is the output from a single-primordial onion, and 60% is the output of a feather from a multi-primordial onion (three primordia or more). 60% is certainly not the last indicator, some bow-growers have a little more "ceiling". But this is already an exception to the rule.

Probably my words upset you by the order that there is no 150 or 300% of the pen output, as 99% of the articles of the would-be authors of charlatans on various sites promise. Sorry, it's boiling. Tired of watching how authors who are far from the onion business distort reality, risking your own, gullible novice onion growers, with your blood. Moreover, my photographs are being stolen and inserted into articles. Okay, you can talk about this endlessly. Let's get back to the topic. For a more realistic figure, base your business plan on an average exit rate of 45%. You can rely on this figure and predict black profits.

Example of calculating yield and income

I hope you understand how to calculate how much green onion can be obtained from 1 sq. Example: 1 sq. M. = 30 kg * 45% = 13.5 kg. * RUB 100 = RUB 1350 Where 1350 rubles, this is black earnings from 1 square meter. Black earnings are the amount from which expenses for the purchase of planting material, fuels and lubricants, greenhouse maintenance, utilities, etc. were not deducted.

There is nothing complicated in the process of forcing green onions. It remains to look after the planting and wait for the green onion feather to grow. Leaving means timely watering and spraying onions. Including with the addition of phytosporin. Inspection of racks and prompt cleaning of rotten or infected bulbs. Maintaining a stable temperature in the greenhouse. Ventilation and air circulation.

When the onion turnip has taken root and the feather has begun to grow, it is possible to regulate the forcing of the onion feather with the help of temperature for certain periods of time. The feather of the green onion lends itself very well to "training". If the onion on the feather needs to be kept in growth, it is enough to lower the temperature in the greenhouse. But not below +8 degrees. This often happens when you need to be on time for a holiday or wait for an increase in the price of onions. For the same reasons, it is possible to speed up the growth of the feather of an onion. To do this, the temperature in the greenhouse rises and the onions grow faster. Forcing onions on a feather lasts up to a certain length of green onions. It should be 40-50 cm. This length is taken into account not from the top of the turnip of the onion, from where the feather comes out, but from the level of the substrate.

Harvesting and packaging of green onion feathers

By far the most enjoyable experience. And so, when the length of the bow satisfies us in full, the forcing of the onion on the feather has reached its final point and it's time. If you run the onion short, you will always sell it very well. Freeloaders resellers love green onions of 25-30 cm. But in this case, you are the loser, and they are in "chocolate". If the forcing of the feather is started at 50 cm, then the onion is no longer considered to be of a presentation. It will be possible to sell it successfully only if you are a complete monopolist, or for various reasons there is a shortage of green onions. Which practically does not happen.

Photo: Green onion harvest

The process of harvesting green onions is as follows. Along the surface of the substrate, the onion is cut with a knife at the root. Stacked in boxes and placed on the sorting table. Then the onion is taken and a cut follows almost near the root bottom. Then the feather of the onion is held with one hand, the onion itself is pulled together with the other. Here are the ready-made green onions in my hands. It remains only to remove the nasty transparent and slippery film from the turgor. Turgor is a leg of a green onion, that same white part of a feather. If this film is not removed, after a few hours it will begin to dry out and a brown edge will appear. What spoils the presentation of green onions. All these procedures are carried out with each bulb.

After the onion is peeled, you need to pack it. The packaging depends on you and those who will take it from you. You either need to agree on this in advance, or look at the wholesale market to see how their onions are packed. And pack the same way. For example, I pack green onions in newspapers, 1 kg each. and put it vertically in a banana (banana box).

Well, I laid out all my thoughts and I hope my note and my experience will be useful to you. If you have read to the end, you are persistent and I am sure you will succeed in forcing an onion on a feather.

If I went somewhere around the answer to your questions, I will add in the comments. Ask questions.

By the way, I will be grateful to you if you liked the note, below there are social media icons, click and share with your friends.

Thank you all for your attention and your successful business in forcing green onion feathers!

And as a bonus, a video of how I peel green onions after harvesting

Growing onions as a business is quite a profitable business, since the demand for this product is growing every day. Any variety can be grown, it will be in demand in the market. Sales are especially beneficial in the cold season, when the summer cottage season is over.

Caring for this culture does not require special education. The main thing is to study the necessary information in advance, take advantage of some expert recommendations. You can start a business with a small volume, you can limit yourself to your summer cottage greenhouse. In order to receive a stable income, over time, it is necessary to expand production volumes, to hire employees.

Pros and cons of growing onions for sale

Growing green onions as a business has its positive and negative sides. The benefits include the following:

  • small cash investments;
  • the costs pay off pretty quickly;
  • experts note a rather high percentage of profitability;
  • products are always in demand on the market, as more and more people prefer to switch to healthy food;
  • always high purchase value of products.

Despite the many advantages, growing greenery has disadvantages, which include the following:

  1. Conditions are not always suitable for favorable cultivation. If it is planned in the northern region, then you need to be prepared for additional costs associated with heating and lighting.
  2. For excellent growth, fertilizers are required, and this is an additional cost.
  3. For regular care, it is better to hire a labor force, which is also a cost.

In some cases, it is better to purchase a land plot in a warmer strip, to travel on business trips, but not to maintain a greenhouse in the northern region. When planning a business, it is important to assess the demand for products in the region.

What documents are needed to open a business?

Business can be of various sizes. Conventionally, this business activity can be divided into the following types:

  • Small greenhouse business. The scale of onion production for greens is reduced to the maintenance of 1-2 greenhouses. If activities are planned in such small volumes, then registration is not required. To conduct such a case, it is necessary to prepare a certificate confirming the existence of a plot where greens are grown, and to resolve the issues of connecting communications - here it is important to work out all the options, provide for the possibility of preferential tariffs. Small businesses will generate a small but steady income.
  • Medium greenhouse business. It is more ambitious and implies the presence of a large number of greenhouses, but a lot of labor resources will not be required. With an activity of this scale, it is necessary to register a business with the relevant authorities, obtain special permits to conduct activities. We will have to monitor the maintenance of the accounting database, draw up and send the relevant documents to the regulatory authorities.
  • Large greenhouse business. Enterprises of this type have a large number of greenhouses and a workforce. Mandatory registration of such activities as LLC or CJSC is required, while the package of documents must be registered with all higher authorities. Such an enterprise must regularly transfer taxes and contributions to the regulatory authorities. Revenues from the sale of green onions directly depend on production volumes. To receive a stable and high income, it is necessary to expand the scale of production, look for additional wholesale buyers.

How to start an onion growing business?

The onion business can be of various sizes. You can conduct it in the following ways:

  • Growing green onions in the apartment. Such a business does not require large expenses, but it is better to have free space so that you can grow greens in the cold season. For these purposes, it is best to use boxes, bottles, boxes and other accessories convenient for plant growth.
  • Growing onions on a feather in their summer cottage- This is a great option for doing business in the summer. There is much more space on the site than in the apartment, but business is relevant only in the summer. If you plan to grow onions all year round, then in the off-season planting should be moved to a warm room. To grow greens in this way, boxes are required, they can be arranged in several rows. Do not forget that a green feather is cheaper in summer than in winter, so production will have to be increased.
  • Greenhouse onion growing business. This type of activity is considered the most successful. It is more profitable to maintain greenhouses in the southern regions. If production is planned in the north, then do not forget that you will have to bear additional costs for electricity and heating. When maintaining a greenhouse, an entrepreneur will not depend on the season and the weather, the products grow all year round.

How much money does it take to start an onion growing business?

Growing green onions as a business is an activity that requires a certain investment. The amount of expenses depends on the region in which this business is conducted. As the personal experience of a large number of entrepreneurs shows, growing in the southern and middle lane is much more profitable than in the north.

First of all, investments are needed in the land plot itself. Before buying, it is important to decide on what scale the activity is planned.

If a person wants to put production on stream, then it is important to purchase a fairly large plot of land on which it will be convenient to arrange everything necessary for the activity.

After acquiring a site, it is best to formalize your business officially. In this case, all activities will be legal, you will not have to fear inspections or any other problems.

To grow greenery, you need to purchase equipment. For this purpose, it is best to buy a greenhouse. They allow the culture to grow in favorable conditions. Funds will be required to purchase specialized care equipment. There is no need to save on the cost of the material from which the greenhouse is made. The better and more durable it is, the better the conditions for growth.

After purchasing all the equipment, you need to think about buying planting material. In this case, savings will not go into the hands, so it is wiser to contact trusted suppliers that are popular in the market. When an entrepreneur is confident that his products are of high quality, the number of buyers will constantly grow. In the future, seedlings for planting can be grown independently.

How much can you earn from growing onions?

Growing onions for greens is a highly profitable business activity. With the right approach, you can have up to 1 million rubles. income per month from several acres of land. In addition to onions, you can grow dill, parsley, and basil. Such plants are loved by many townspeople; greens are added during cooking to add a piquant taste to dishes.

If significant funds have been spent on entrepreneurial activity, then you should not be afraid that they will pay off for a long time. The first net profit can be received approximately 6 months after starting a business. Such products are always in demand, so the payback will be fast.

An onion business will be initially successful if approached wisely. It is important to think over everything to the smallest detail: how the plants will be grown, what kind of care is required. Only in this case it is possible to achieve success in this type of entrepreneurial activity.

What kind of equipment will help increase the onion yield?

In order to grow onions all year round, getting a good harvest, regardless of weather conditions, daylight hours and other factors, experts recommend using greenhouses. These structures can be built independently or you can buy collapsible structures. The first option is much cheaper, but if you have never held a hammer and a hacksaw in your hands, then it is better to purchase a ready-made greenhouse.

Inside the building, it is necessary to create ideal conditions for growing onions:

  1. Heating the greenhouse. If technical capabilities permit, you can join the heating system of your home. Another option is "potbelly stove", electric heaters or gas convectors.
  2. Irrigation system. Be sure to install a water container, which must always be full.
  3. Lighting. In the cold season, when the daylight hours are very short, in order to ensure normal growth and development of plants, it is necessary to take care of lighting.
  4. Ventilation. Be sure to consider the possibility of ventilating your greenhouse.

Growing onions outdoors is much easier. In this case, it is necessary to make a watering system for the plants and take care of their protection from sudden changes in air temperature.

OKVED code and licensing of this business

Commercial activities related to the cultivation of onions, according to the all-Russian classifier, fall under the category with the OKVED code 01.12.1.

An important point! If you are engaged in paperwork for an onion growing company, consider the fact that for this line of business no special permits and licenses required.

Popular onion growing technologies

Inhabitants of rural areas prefer to grow onions from sets. This method allows you to get the finished product very quickly. But for this it is necessary to carefully sort out and process the planting material with special means. The main condition for obtaining a good harvest using this technology is the presence of an open area, which is well lit and blown by the winds.

In addition to the above technology, you can grow onions from seeds (the process takes a lot of time and there are often losses) or get greens from large bulbs. Choosing the best method for growing these beneficial plants depends on your desire and the availability of the necessary resources.

As I wrote in my review of the most attractive green business ideas. One of the most "favorite" directions for many beginners is growing onions on a feather. Such attachment and faith is not entirely clear to me personally, because in fact, it is onions that do not generate more income than also growing parsley, radishes or dill. At the same time, it has a number of significant nuances. But first things first.

And so if you decide to start growing onions for sale, we are talking about onions per feather, then you should definitely think about your own greenhouse. At the same time, when designing a greenhouse, a number of nuances should be taken into account for growing onions:

  • The first is heating. Growing onions on a feather is quite a troublesome business, and for maximum profit, the ripening period of at least two crops must fall in the winter period. How and how to heat the case is individual, but it is worthwhile to immediately calculate how much such a pleasure will cost. Practice shows that the use of electricity and natural gas is far from the best option. The cost of the first and second is constantly growing and a sharp jump in prices can bankrupt the whole venture. The best option in our country is to use firewood, since there is a lot of wood, of course, in such a way that original solutions will be used that will not only get cheap heat, but also make the process not so laborious.
  • The second is watering. This is not to say that the cultivation of onions for sale requires any special watering conditions, but the possibility of root feeding is mandatory. In practice, this means that watering is done better through a container.
  • The third is a capricious onion culture, in every way from the point of view of growing green feathers. Large fluctuations in temperature, high humidity or low humidity are immediately reflected in the green pen. That is, the crop loses its presentation and all the work goes down the drain. So, it is imperative to provide for the possibility of airing and, of course, studying the basics of growing with the obligatory use of the appropriate "chemistry".

Now some of the main points when growing onions for sale:

The first and perhaps the most important thing in... This is the prevention of diseases, those who have not been involved in the cultivation of green onions cannot even imagine how quickly a green feather loses its presentation during an outbreak of major diseases, especially since we are talking about a greenhouse where the disease is spreading at a tremendous speed. De facto, the entire greenhouse can "die" in just a few days.

Second - presentation... The big mistake of many who are just starting to grow onions for sale is to plant the entire area at the same time. It is worth remembering that any onion has several phases of growth and the plant reaches the marketable condition at the “junction” of two phases, between the full maturation of the “feather” and the release of the flower “arrow”. As we ourselves understand, it is a pity to harvest earlier, we do not get the maximum yield. But when the flower “arrow” is released, the bow loses its marketable condition (they no longer want to buy it). And if the entire greenhouse "reached" the condition at the same time, you simply physically will not have time to clean it up in time. It is optimal to plant in beds at intervals of 6-7 days, then we get systematic ripening.

Third - pre-sale preparation... This moment is literally always forgotten, remember, in what form do you buy green onions? Of course, neat, without a bulb and tied. Now imagine the cleaning process itself! Quite rightly, this is a laborious and rather tedious process, which is usually done either by employees (for a separate fee) or the whole family, and this expense item in this business on greenery is very tangible, because the payment is directly related to the amount of the product refined and brought to mind.

Fourth - planting material... The green onion business has another major pitfall associated with planting material. With traditional cultivation technology, bulbs are used as planting material and at first glance there are no problems, but if you have built a greenhouse and are going to harvest several crops, then the question arises of how and where to store planting material. If stored improperly, the bulbs will sprout ahead of time and you will not receive a conditioned green feather from them. And they will need to be stored for at least six months, or even more. So, when calculating a business plan for growing onions in a greenhouse, do not forget about arranging a place for storing planting material.

We will talk about the technology itself with a description of temperatures, terms and, of course, calculating a business plan for growing green onions for sale in a separate article, do not forget to subscribe. Now I will add that with all the disadvantages, there is one huge plus of such a green business is the presence of a huge demand at any time of the year, which is also not unimportant when organizing your business.

As a postscript, I will add that if you equip your own greenhouse on your personal plot, then you should not worry about paying taxes, in the country you really do not pay taxes. If we are talking about a more or less industrial scale, then it is worth thinking about and starting to count the options.

Interesting on this topic

Growing green onions for sale is a home business.

The green onion business is relevant from October to April. In the spring-summer period, when onions are grown in vegetable gardens, their value in markets and outlets drops significantly, so onions for sale should be grown no earlier than October.

The price of green onions increases significantly in December closer to the New Year holidays and amounts to 400 - 500 rubles. for 1 kg. During this period, you can make good money on the sale of onions.

Growing onions for sale at home

Almost any room, even a garage, can be adapted for growing green onions. The presence of windows in the room for forcing is optional, the onion is not very picky about sunlight and you can limit yourself to illumination from fluorescent lamps.

The main condition is the temperature in the room, which must be maintained at about + 15 ° C. To reduce heat loss, the same garage can be insulated from the inside with any available insulation.

For forcing onions on a feather, you can use a basement, a garage, a room in a house, a greenhouse, an insulated barn or a utility room.

Now the room needs to be equipped. Onions for greens are more practical to grow on shelves. Shallow boxes or sheets of plywood with sides made of a 5 cm rail are placed on the racks, and polyethylene is placed on the bottom.

The racks are placed one above the other at a distance of at least 70 cm between themselves.

Fluorescent lamps should be installed above each rack, you can also use ordinary household bulbs.

The key to successful forcing of onion feathers in planting material is that not every bulb is suitable for forcing feathers. It's all about the number of ears in the onion, in order to check the number of ears, you need to take several onions from the bag and cut them in half. If there is one cob in the onions, then it is better not to use such an onion for forcing, the output of feather greens from such an onion will be small. For forcing green onions, you need to use bulbs with at least 2 - 3 ears, and preferably with 3 more ears, the output of feathers from such bulbs will be maximum.

The soil is poured onto the racks in a layer of 3 - 5 cm.

After planting the bulbs, the soil must be moistened, the soil must be moist, the water must not stand, otherwise the bulbs may rot. In the future, as the onion grows, the soil is periodically watered.

With constant lighting and maintaining the room temperature + 15 - 17 ° C, onions will reach a height of 40 cm within 25 - 30 days. When the feather reaches 40 cm, you can start harvesting.

The onion feather is freed from the bulbs, collected in bunches, and weighed on a balance. Usually the weight of onion bunches is 70 - 80 g. The bunches can be wrapped with cling film or bandaged with rubber bands. Finished bundles are placed in boxes and sent for sale.

Growing onions for a feather business.

Growing green onions is only half the battle, it also needs to be realized. There are several options here.

Bypass the nearest grocery stores, retail outlets in the market, vegetable stalls and offer the supply of greens at a wholesale price, in this case, you need to deliver onions to retail outlets yourself 2-3 times a week. You will have to take back the leftover onions that have not been sold. If you supply small lots to the points, then the whole is usually sold.

Alternatively, you can independently sell onion greens on the market, for this you only need to pay for a place for trade. You do not need to register a business activity for the onion trade.

Onion growing video.

Growing onions for greens in a greenhouse, the video shows the process of planting onions.

Another original way to grow onions on a feather in plastic vegetable boxes. In this method, soil is not required, the boxes of bulbs are slightly immersed in the water.

So far, nothing new has happened to me in the process of growing green onions, I want to talk about the sale of finished products - the sale of onions. I will share how I sell onions, but I would very much like many comments to appear on this note directly from you. Namely, how, where and how you sell and sell the fruits of your labor - green onions, because the sale of green onions is the main stage of earning both a beginner and an experienced onion grower.

In the picture below, I have sketched cartoons, the purpose of which is to sell onions, namely my description of my methods. There are three of them in the picture, but in fact I have four of them:

The first is, of course, wholesalers in wholesale markets who buy and sell green onions;
The second is retail markets where greens and, of course, green onions are sold directly to the end consumer;
The third is its own sale of green onions at the point of sale, be it a stall, bazaar or a counter in the market;
The fourth one is the shops that pack green onions in supermarkets, hypermarkets, etc.

I will not deliberately describe the fourth source, because novice onion growers and onions with a small volume do not have the necessary crop mass to provide these "free gluttons", and whoever has more serious onion lots knows very well what is what and how much ...

And so I will begin to tell you everything in order and where to sell onions from the most profitable source of sales.

The first and most profitable onion sale takes place on its own in the retail, grocery market to the end consumer. I will not say that I am a fan of such sales of green onions, I do not like to waste time on idle time on the market, but when there is a little bit of time it becomes a very profitable working condition. The main benefits from independent trading: you have to harvest less from the garden, the ability to control the price yourself, a margin of more than 300%, and of course the most "tasty" are potential customers represented by local traders.

There are some tricks, I hope you understand that it is stupid to stand with a whole wagon of one bow in the market, "distant" buyers will not understand correctly, they will think that they have stolen from the field somewhere :). Therefore, early in the morning I go to the wholesaler, I buy 5 kg. dill, 5 kg. parsley, 2 kg. cilantro, 5 kg. lettuce and 10 bunches of regan. Well, now with such a set of greens I am quite similar to an ordinary reseller. I unfold on the market, knit bunches of 60 grams, indiscriminately turn on my products - green onions. In our market, the daily price of the counter costs 250 rubles, it is this amount that I beat off with dill and parsley, and from the sale of greens I compensate myself for a market lunch and the cost of depreciation and gasoline. I have a net income from my green onions. About 200 bunches of onions are sold per day. For clarity, I will give a few numbers: 200 bundles of 60 grams = 12 kg. pen, I think at the lowest prices, I do not take into account the deficit, everything is much more pleasant there. And so, 200 bundles of 15 rubles each = 3000 rubles. To grow 12 kg. green onions, I need to plant 1 bag (35 kg.) of turnips with a 30% yield. In the purchase at a maximum price of 15 rubles / kg. a turnip will cost 525 rubles, plus 20% for distillation costs = 100 rubles, we get costs in the total amount of -625 rubles.

Let's summarize: revenue 3000 - expenses 625 = revenue 2375. Not bad right? So I like it!

But this is not the most profitable, the most profitable is communication with the constant traders of the market, as a rule, they themselves stick with the questions of who you are, where you are from and why you came here 🙂 after all, not everyone will like a neighbor with 60 gram bunches of greens at a price like theirs. To which I give the answer, “you don’t want to see me here, take all the onions in the morning at the price at which you take them at the wholesaler”. Voila, 95% of traders become my buyers, the main task is now to monitor wholesale prices. They like the fact that the green onions are fresh, vigorous and delivered to their outlet by call. They willingly pay for this service. A little advice, do not disappear from the market right away, come to sell onions to the market for a while with an iron alibi - “this is how I’ll sell MY greens, when I only have onions, then I’ll start to carry you”, fill yourself up, you will give understand that if they start to get impudent, then you will gladly become their neighbor again and your onion sale will be more profitable :). I had cases when, out of anger, they bought me both parsley and dill and everything that I had under the counter.

The second most profitable source of onion sales is the very sellers of the grocery market that I wrote about above. Initially, I made contact with them early in the morning. As a rule, from 5 in the morning, all agricultural producers who do not want to sell their goods wholesale at low prices are rubbing around the market. It turns out such a mini wholesale near the market for lazy retailers. I think so in every region. Believe me, it works, but not very profitable. The disadvantages are that you need to get up very early and go there, there are a lot of people like you, and the worst thing is that there is no fact of a complete sale, you can stay with half of the goods in your hands, which you have nowhere to put afterwards. You will not be lucky at the wholesale, as there is little and you will be sent, at retail with one onion you will not get up. Therefore, the strategy described above, in the first source of onion sale, probably works. So I have more chances to correctly hit the jackpot. But still, for such a realization of green onions, I pack the onions in a newspaper at 1 kg. I put it standing in a can of 15-20 packs. At most I sold 3 bananas in the morning. Of the advantages, I note that less time wasted, less harvest to remove than wholesale and a slightly higher price. Wholesalers in my city throw in 30-70%, I throw in 50% of the wholesale price. Under these conditions, you can sell onions to shops, cafes, canteens, etc.

Well, the third source is a wholesaler on the wholesale market. This is a harvester that "eats" everything horrible and how many. Personality as a rule is not always pleasant and thirsty for you on…. bend 🙂 for the price. To be honest, I have immunity to them (I said this in one of my videos), which is what I wish for you. I get a thrill looking at them when we can't agree and they find out that my car has a "Caution, trunk closed" option. A little advice to beginners, do not shake, do not worry, do not get lost, stand your ground, I assure you that your products are in demand at any time of the year, because people eat every day, and no more than 10 people grow onions in your city or suburb. Yes, they can have larger volumes, but no one has canceled the quality, the larger the onion volumes, the weaker the control, the less profitable the onion sale. This is how I started getting to know wholesalers.

Winter, cold, onions growing, a week before harvest. I stop by a wholesaler, we have a whole row of herbs there. I must say right away that by nature I am a little arrogant and rude, but I always reciprocate, so to speak, I am not out of the blue. I went to the roller shutter closest to the entrance, a girl was sitting there and she was clearly cold, I started a dialogue:

I - good afternoon, buy green onions?

She is 50 rubles a kilogram.

I - no, 110 and from hand to hand.

Is she - you're bad at math?

I - yes, I was joking 🙂 I am satisfied with your price, let's go.

Where is she?

I - how where, for green onions, I told you that I offer onions.

She - and where is he?

I am growing in the greenhouse, waiting for you.

She - in the sense of ..?

I - in a straight line, I cut at 110, and at 50 suits me, but you cut yourself.

She is pi pi pi ...

She is pi pi pi ...

In short, I laughed further and left her, moved on. By the way, my mood just rose after this lady. I go to the next pavilion, an elderly woman of Caucasian appearance is sitting, by the way, it turned out to be more adequate:

I - hello, take a bow:

She - yes, of course, show me.

I’m not with me, I’ve already sold everything, but the price didn’t suit me very much, and now I’m looking for a nicer buyer for the next week (I had to improvise)

She - for 70 kg ladies, 8 rubles if bunches.

I didn’t, I only gave it up to 70, and I say the price didn’t suit me very much, I’ve packed kilograms into the newspaper.

She - take it if it's a good bow. I'll take 90 each.

I went into a couple of stalls, but everywhere the same thing. I didn't even get out of the car in the last place, I opened the window and said:

How much will you take a bow?

She is no more than 90.

I - I'll take your clients to the market for 130 now, I won't give less than 110, if you want, call (wrote her contacts).

It's dry, brazen, but they got it, they had a ceiling of 90 rubles on that day, and so they tried to throw me in the amount of 🙂
