Growing onion feathers as a business. Green onions for sale: a business project for everyone. Bridge planting onions on a feather

Forcing onions in a greenhouse is not a profitable business for the lazy. A banal story - “I'm tired of working for my“ uncle ”and I want to work for myself, especially since I have my own free plot. Which either already has a greenhouse, or you can build one. " Further a matter of technology. Find the most suitable type of business on the Internet, read different business plans and here it is - the solution, to forge an onion feather. After all, according to advisers from the Internet, this is a miracle business, where you can make good money in a short time with a small area. Profitability is off the charts, which means it's time to get down to business.
Yes, in the last one you are definitely right. Now is the most cherished time when it is really time to start casting onions on a feather. Forcing of onion feathers is carried out in the cold season from the head of onion, which is on time in the same summer as well. The term for growing onion feathers depends on the region. On average, forcing onion feathers lasts for several months - September, October, November, December, January, February, March and even April.

If you decide to engage in forcing an onion feather, then read my note to the end. And maybe this venture will leave you. Or maybe vice versa, it will stimulate you to action. I have been forcing the pen for more than five years, and everything I write and advise is backed up by personal experience.

The video shows the harvest of green onions, which are ready for harvest. Such results are waiting for you too.

Is forcing onions on a feather right for me?

Immediately substantiate the nuances with dividing this item into "worth it" or "not worth it."

  • if you have your own plot, which is owned
  • you live on this site or it is as close as possible to you
  • the site is guarded and there are all the necessary communications: electricity, water, gas (not a prerequisite)
  • there is a greenhouse on the plot
  • if there is no greenhouse, but there is free finance for its construction
  • there are free funds for the purchase of the first batch of planting material
  • you have people who are ready to help at any time
  • you do not work for "uncle" or are ready to be fired
  • do you have personal transport
  • you are not a lazy person

Not worth it:

  • the plot is planned to be rented
  • the plot is more than 10 km away from you
  • there is no light or water on the site
  • you plan to hire transport
  • you plan to borrow or borrow money for the greenhouse and the purchase of planting material
  • you work for your "uncle", but it's scary to take risks and quit
  • they are ready to help you only for "adequate" wages
  • you are a lazy person

I think the idea is clear and many will agree with this. It turned out that most of the points "not worth it" coincide with the position, it is better to abandon this venture. In addition to loss, debt and disappointment, it will bring nothing. If all is well and you have decided that forcing onions on a feather suits you in all respects, read on.

In order to start making green onions, your greenhouse must be properly equipped. Since onion feathers are driven out to a greater extent in winter, it should have as little heat loss as possible. The better the greenhouse cover for forcing onions, the lower the cost of its maintenance. There is no need to overpay for heating the air. Well, this is so logical, I will not focus on this.

Racks are more responsible for controlling growth in the process of forcing onion feathers. They must be mandatory. What to construct them from depends on you and your financial situation. This nuance should be taken into account based on the understanding that first of all the air is heated in the greenhouse, and then the earth. The latter heats up much longer. But if forcing onions on a feather proceeds on the shelves, then the bulb gets heat much faster and begins to germinate. Then you can always control the growth of green onions. If you need to speed up the distillation, add more heat. If you slow down growth, you lower the temperature. Of course, you can resort to such manipulations with a bow on a feather only after a while, having gained the necessary experience.

Racks for forcing feathers, personally, I recommend making them in two tiers. But if there is absolutely trouble with the area in the greenhouse, it is possible at three, and sometimes even at four. It should be taken into account that the more tiers, the smaller the gap between them. The bow will lack light and will be faded. What will affect the demand and price for. Artificial lighting of each tier is certainly justified, but it incurs additional costs for the installation of the lighting itself. Thus, increasing the cost of the grown green onions. Make sure the racks are not too wide. The wider the rack, the harder it will be to plant the onions. The speed of planting planting material and harvesting green onions plays an important role in the forcing process. The central rack, which can be approached from all sides, is made wider, and the side shelves are narrower - on an outstretched arm.

Heating for forcing feather onion

The main process of forcing onions on a feather takes place at temperatures from +11 to +25. The temperature depends on the capability of the heating source. Definitely, the gas boiler in the greenhouse is the leader in these indicators. But, not everyone has the opportunity to bring the gas itself into the greenhouse. Personally, I have a buleryan in my greenhouse - an air heating stove. And with the right approach, it does quite well.

The greenhouse must be able to ventilate. The humidity should not be too high. And coupled with stagnant air, this is a strong blow to the green onion crop. Onions on a feather categorically do not tolerate stagnant air. It must circulate constantly. An ordinary household fan, directed at an angle of 45 degrees relative to any wall, will help to cope with this task. It consumes little energy, so it is not costly. If there is no circulation in the greenhouse, at the stage of forcing the feathers of onions 2/3, with 100% certainty, the feathers of the green onions will start and. This is especially noticeable at the corners.

Do you want to tickle your nerves? ..., do not open windows and doors, suddenly the heat will go away. At the same time, tell me later in the comments what came of it.
The greenhouse should be supplied with fresh air twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. To do this, just open the door and window for five minutes. In cold weather, only the door, with the fan on for 10 minutes. You don't need to worry about the heat, the oxygen heats up very quickly. So forcing the onion on the feather will proceed as usual.

Water for watering onions on a feather

There are no requirements as such. should be, and how you will implement it depends on you. Nevertheless, I will give some recommendations. If you watched my videos, you noticed that I have two water tanks. Plastic "eurocube" for 1 cube of water and a plastic barrel for 200 liters. In the first, I have regular water, which is filled immediately after watering. This allows the water to warm up until the next watering. In the second, I dilute potassium permanganate and phytosporin for preventive watering. They are interconnected by a wiring of plastic pipes, on which valves are installed for adjustment.

Multi-bud onion on a feather for planting

The guarantee of the very profitability of the business is a variety of onions for a feather. There are some characteristics of the onion varieties that must be suitable for the forcing of the onion feather. Experienced bow breeders tend to use the multi-bud and multi-nested bow on the feather. To achieve this goal, some surf the vastness of our vast country in search of a supplier, others take risks and order suitable varieties remotely from other regions. I do not recommend that you start with such risky actions.

To begin with, I advise you to buy a feather onion at the nearest wholesale markets or bases. You can also use popular message boards. They often offer to buy a multi-pronged onion for a feather at a good price. There are some popular varieties that make forcing onions more profitable. This is achieved by increasing the percentage of pen output per square meter. Thus, choosing the right multi-pronged onion for a feather will increase your profits. The top three that I recommend finding and buying feather onions include the varieties Karatalsky, Rostovsky local, Stuttgarter Riesen, Egyptian and Chalcedony. About these varieties, I wrote a separate note that I recommend reading -.

Photo: Multi-bud onion on a feather

There is also a variety of multi-pronged onions for a feather - Rostovsky. But to what extent I am telling the truth, I myself do not know. I came across this variety only once. According to the appearance and reviews of fellow onions' colleagues, whom I asked, it was him. The result is simply excellent. Unfortunately, I never got to see him again. But, if you suddenly run into this bow, take it without hesitation. Of course, do not forget to look at the quality of the bulbs. The onion should be intact, with no signs of rot. When cut healthy, juicy and white. The presence of blackness, and the softness of the root bottom, indicates the contamination of the planting material. It is impossible to take such a bow even for the “cap of crackers”. Having infected a greenhouse with one batch of onions, sometimes you can forget what forcing onions on a feather for the whole season is.

The caliber of the bow on the feather in turn affects the planting speed. If you take samples of onions with a caliber of 2-4 cm, the feather will be thin and plant it longer. And if you buy a turnip on a 5-10 cm feather, the feather will be thicker and plant it faster.

Preparing and soaking onions on a feather

Before you start planting, you need to prepare the onion. After all, you want the forcing of the onion on the feather to take place evenly, right? There is nothing complicated. The main thing is to cut the neck of the onion and soak it before planting. It is best to cut the neck of the turnip by 1/4 - 1/3 with a knife and without regret. Thanks to this, the feather of the onion will start growing more evenly. Even if at this moment you damage the already green rudiments of green onions, do not worry. A few weeks before harvest, you will forget that the tips of the onion feathers have been damaged. All wounds will heal and the presentation of the feather of the bow will be excellent.

Photo: Soaking onions
After the onion is all cut off, just before planting,. It is advisable to do this in warm water with the addition of potassium permanganate. When soaking, water should not exceed +50 degrees. Warm water and potassium permanganate will additionally disinfect the planting material. And the warm water itself will contribute to the additional awakening of the onion turnip and give a start to the formation of the root system. You can soak onions from an hour to a day. It all depends on the planned speed of forcing the feather. The faster the preparation and planting of the onion is carried out, the faster the forcing of the onion on the feather will begin.

Substrate for forcing onion feathers

Forcing onions on a feather can be carried out on any available substrate. The substrate is a kind of soil into which the onion turnip will take root. The main and most popular are: of course, the garden soil itself, loose compost or humus, as well as sawdust. For beginner guides, of course, it is worth starting to drive green onions on ordinary soil or humus. Yes, it's dirty and you will have to try to work cleanly, but for that for sure. And when you gain experience, you can switch to sawdust. Then the forcing of the onion feather will proceed in a pure mode.

The substrate is poured onto the shelves of the shelves. The thickness of the layer is usually 5 cm. That is, the sides on the shelves should not exceed more than 6 cm. 5 cm substrate and 1 cm as a support for the extreme turnip of the onion. So that, while the onion is without roots, it does not roll off. Of course, you can make the layer thicker, but this does not justify the labor costs. The thicker the substrate layer on the racks, the heavier it will be after each watering. The onion roots are 5 cm thick, more than enough for the normal process of forcing the feathers. It is advisable to put a film under the substrate. But not kissing. In some places, it is advisable to pierce the film with a small nail or knitting needle, thereby forming very small holes. This will allow you to "leave", and not stagnate excess moisture during watering.

Bridge planting onions on a feather

Planting onions on a feather by a bridge method is the most tedious and monotonous process. The bridge method for planting onions on a feather is by placing the bulbs on the beds side by side. As close as possible, picking up the bulbs so that there is as little empty space as possible between the bulbs. On the first plantings, it takes too long. But this is at first when you focus on correctness. With experience, the selection of bulbs takes place automatically and the planting speed of onions increases significantly. This method of planting turnip onions for growing green onions can significantly save usable space in the greenhouse. The usable area is the allotted area in which it is planned to cast the onion onto the feather. This concept does not include paths and other areas for servicing onion racks.

Calculation of the yield of a bow feather from 1 square meter

When planting onions, you can calculate the required amount of planting material in advance. Experience shows that 1 sack of onions is used for 1 square meter. Big red bag - Chinese. Depending on the type of onion, in one bag from 25 to 30 kg of onions. With a feather caliber of 5-8 cm and correct planting, about 400 bulbs are placed per 1 square meter. Exactly as in the bag. I do not pretend to be a basis, but I get exactly this kind of landing arithmetic. And as a rule - true. Inaccuracy + - 10% of the planned amount of onions for planting. Which is negligible. Thus, using the bridge planting method and certain varieties, the yield of green onion feathers per 1 square meter varies from 25 to 60%. Where 25% is the output from a single-primordial onion, and 60% is the output of a feather from a multi-primordial onion (three primordia or more). 60% is certainly not the last indicator, some bow-growers have a little more "ceiling". But this is already an exception to the rule.

Probably my words upset you by the order that there is no 150 or 300% of the pen output, as 99% of the articles of the would-be authors of charlatans on various sites promise. Sorry, it's boiling. Tired of watching how authors who are far from the onion business distort reality, risking your own, gullible novice onion growers, with your blood. Moreover, my photographs are stolen and inserted into articles. Okay, you can talk about this endlessly. Let's get back to the topic. For a more realistic figure, base your business plan on an average exit rate of 45%. You can rely on this figure and predict black profits.

Example of calculating yield and income

I hope you understand how to calculate how much green onion can be obtained from 1 sq. Example: 1 sq. M. = 30 kg * 45% = 13.5 kg. * RUB 100 = RUB 1350 Where 1350 rubles, this is black earnings from 1 square meter. Black earnings are the amount from which expenses for the purchase of planting material, fuels and lubricants, greenhouse maintenance, utilities, etc. were not deducted.

There is nothing complicated in the process of forcing green onions. It remains to look after the planting and wait for the green onion feather to grow. Leaving means timely watering and spraying onions. Including with the addition of phytosporin. Inspection of racks and prompt cleaning of rotten or infected bulbs. Maintaining a stable temperature in the greenhouse. Ventilation and air circulation.

When the onion turnip has taken root and the feather has begun to grow, it is possible to regulate the forcing of the onion feather with the help of temperature for certain periods of time. The feather of the green onion is very trainable. If the onion on the feather needs to be kept in growth, it is enough to lower the temperature in the greenhouse. But not below +8 degrees. This often happens when you need to be on time for a holiday or wait for an increase in the price of onions. For the same reasons, it is possible to speed up the growth of the feather of an onion. To do this, the temperature in the greenhouse rises and the onions grow faster. Forcing onions on a feather lasts up to a certain length of green onions. It should be 40-50 cm. This length is taken into account not from the top of the turnip of the onion, from where the feather comes out, but from the level of the substrate.

Harvesting and packaging of green onion feathers

By far the most enjoyable experience. And so, when the length of the bow satisfies us in full, the forcing of the onion on the feather has reached its final point and it's time. If you run the onion short, you will always sell it very well. Freeloaders resellers love green onions of 25-30 cm. But in this case, you are a loser, and they are in "chocolate". If the forcing of the feather is started at 50 cm, then the onion is no longer considered to be of a presentation. It will be possible to sell it successfully only if you are a complete monopolist, or for various reasons there is a shortage of green onions. Which practically does not happen.

Photo: Green onion harvest

The process of harvesting green onions is as follows. Along the surface of the substrate, the onion is cut with a knife at the root. Stacked in boxes and placed on the sorting table. Then the onion is taken and a cut follows almost near the root bottom. Then the feather of the onion is held with one hand, the onion itself is pulled together with the other. Here are the ready-made green onions in my hands. It remains only to remove the nasty transparent and slippery film from the turgor. Turgor is a leg of a green onion, that same white part of a feather. If this film is not removed, after a few hours it will begin to dry out and a brown edge will appear. What spoils the presentation of green onions. All these procedures are carried out with each bulb.

After the onion is peeled, you need to pack it. The packaging depends on you and those who will take it from you. You either need to agree on this in advance, or look at the wholesale market to see how their onions are packed. And pack the same way. For example, I pack green onions in newspapers, 1 kg each. and put it vertically in a banana (banana box).

Well, I laid out all my thoughts and I hope my note and my experience will be useful to you. If you have read to the end, you are persistent and I am sure you will succeed in forcing an onion on a feather.

If I went somewhere around the answer to your questions, I will add in the comments. Ask questions.

What the article is about:

Growing green onions on a feather

Business relevance

Green onions are not only a source of valuable vitamins, but also a wonderful way to start your own business. This product is produced annually in large batches for sale. In 3-4 months, you can set up a small business by studying the market and mastering the cultivation technology and distribution channels.

Sales organization is a key issue. You should not believe the articles that state that "the main thing is to grow a good harvest, and there will be a buyer himself."

Experienced businessmen grow onions all year round: in the warm season - in the field, in a greenhouse - in winter.

The profitability of this business depends on organizational issues and averages 30% in winter and 50% in summer.

To grow green onions for sale, you need to take into account a number of additional factors and pitfalls, which will be discussed in the article.

The subtleties of the organization

This business idea has many advantages and features that every aspiring businessman should take into account:

  1. A relatively short production cycle - in a month you can get the first harvest of green onions.
  2. Low labor costs - on average about 1 hour of working time is spent on processing 10 m². This means that one worker can cultivate about 80 m² of land per day.
  3. The personnel for planting seeds, soil cultivation and harvesting can be low-skilled.
  4. Some technologies allow growing onions using racks of 3-4 tiers, which significantly increases productivity from the site.
  5. There are special conditions for growing onions: lighting from 12 to 15 hours a day, temperature - 15-18 ° C, watering (peak need 4 liters per 1 m²).

The choice of varieties for growing green onions

High yields can be achieved through the use of multi-primordial species. For industrial cultivation, the following varieties of green onions are often used:

  • Leek - characterized by a wide feather, rich rich taste. Productivity - 20 kg / 9 m².
  • Batun - oblong leaves of light green color, bright rich taste. The plant can be cut up to three times. Productivity - 25-35 kg / 9 m².
  • Shallot - characterized by resistance to bad weather conditions, has long, long, unfading feathers. Productivity - 45 kg / 9 m².
  • Egyptian is a resistant variety, it can grow and develop even in a slight frost. Productivity - 35-40 kg / 9 m².

Growing technologies

There are several main ways to grow onions:

1. Planting in the open field with daily watering. The first planting is carried out in the spring after frost. Seeds (preferably from Dutch or Japanese producers) can be used instead of bulbs.

The advantages of this method:

  • low costs for organizing a business;
  • simplicity.

Disadvantages:

  • dependence on the season (no more than three harvests per year, depending on weather conditions and varieties);
  • use of large land plots.

2. Greenhouse method. Its advantages:

  • simplicity;
  • maximum profitability;
  • use of a small area due to tiers;
  • independence from weather conditions.

Disadvantages:

  • high cost of the project (for building a greenhouse, installing racks, organizing watering, etc.).

3. Hydroponics Is a method of growing plants in artificial gardens without soil.

The home hydroponic plant is an advanced agricultural growing technology that gives high yields.

Remember how in childhood, at school, a teacher wrapped a bulb with wet cotton wool, and after two weeks it sprouted. This is the essence of hydroponics in a primitive form.

Technology advantages:

  • maximum profitability;
  • use of small areas;
  • there is no need to spend money on soil fertilization;
  • you can grow onions on shelves;
  • independence from weather conditions;
  • reduction of the period for forcing feathers to a presentation (about 16 days).

The disadvantage of hydroponics is the high cost. But this method is one of the most promising, suitable for those who wish to build a reliable and stable business.

Demand

Onions contain practically all vitamins and microelements necessary for a person, enhances immunity. Therefore, green onions are in demand all year round. Only the price of the product changes - in summer it is cheap, in the cold season the price increases several times.

Business registration

The industrial cultivation of feather onions as a business requires mandatory registration with state authorities. Without proper registration, no wholesale buyer will cooperate with you. First, you need to choose the form of doing business - LLC or individual entrepreneur.

Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. You can register yourself by contacting the tax office at your place of residence.

If there is not enough time to collect documents, a specialized law firm can do this for a fee.

Financial calculations

If you want to build a serious business with big profits, choose high-tech methods. Despite the need for large investments, you will get a profitable business that will quickly recoup your investment.

Consider the approximate costs for setting up a hydroponic plant. In many ways, they depend on the level of automation, materials, varieties. The onions will be grown in their own 50 m² building using the shelving method - which will increase the total area to 80 m².

Financial business plan: start-up investments:

  • purchase of lamps - $ 150;
  • purchase of wires (100 meters) - $ 50;
  • lighting installation - $ 50;
  • racks (2 floors) - $ 200;
  • bathtubs for shelving - $ 500;
  • installation of a working surface (for the preparation of planting material) - $ 150;
  • hydroponic technologies (without automation): compressors, hoses, pumps - $ 400;
  • additional hydroponic plants - $ 300

As you can see from the calculations, the initial cost is $ 1,800.

Monthly costs for 1 cycle of green onion cultivation:

  • purchase of sedimentary material - $ 150;
  • lighting costs - $ 10;
  • heating costs (in cold weather) - $ 40;
  • watering costs - $ 20

Total - $ 220 per month.

Profit calculation and ways of implementation

Based on the example, at the output in one cycle, you can get about 550 kg of finished product - green onions. For further implementation, you can choose one of the methods:

  1. self-sale;

Having organized several points of sale, for 1 kg of onion feathers, you can set the price of $ 4. This will add the cost of organizing a sales place and additional personnel. If you plan to wholesale the product, the price will drop to $ 2.

Each of the proposed options has its own pros and cons. If you find a wholesale buyer, then in 16-22 days you can earn $ 1100 (550 kg x $ 2). In this case, the net profit will be $ 880 (1100-220).

At home

If at the start of your activity you are not ready to invest a lot of money, you can organize the cultivation of onions at home for the purpose of a small part-time job. The technology is absolutely simple.

In the warm season, you can plant onions in your garden plot, in winter you can install small racks in the apartment or arrange a place on the windowsill.

In this case, the start-up investment is needed for the installation of small racks and the purchase of seed ($ 100-200).

We bring to your attention a business plan (feasibility study) for opening a greenhouse facility for growing green onions with a total area of 500 sq. m. This is a small greenhouse complex, which can actually be located in the conditions of a personal subsidiary farm.

How much money is needed to start a green onion growing business

Let's start by calculating the financial costs of organizing the project. According to some reports, the construction of one square meter of a greenhouse with partial automation and microclimate takes about 4,000 rubles.

Accordingly, the construction of a greenhouse of 500 sq. m. will cost 2 million rubles. In addition, it is worth considering the costs of purchasing planting material (50 thousand rubles.

), registration of a land plot (150 thousand rubles), laying of communications (100 thousand rubles) and the purchase of a car for transportation of grown products (500 thousand rubles).

Thus, the minimum investment for starting a business will amount to 2.8 million rubles.

Fixed costs

The main costs of the greenhouse farm for growing green onions are related to the payment of wages and electricity costs.

To ensure normal operation, the farm needs: 2 greenhouses (planting, cutting, packing plants), 1 handyman, an accountant (you can outsource), a driver (delivery of products).

The wage fund for such a team is at least 100 thousand rubles per month or 1.2 million rubles per year.

At a price of 6 rubles per kW / hour, annual electricity costs will amount to 739,896 rubles.

Gas heating requires approximately 16,500 cubic meters. meters per year (for a greenhouse of 500 sq. m.

), which in monetary terms corresponds to 32,871 rubles of spent funds.

Other expenses are related to the purchase of packaging material, fertilizers, seeds, the cost of renting a land plot (if the plot is not owned), and paying taxes (STS). Approximately, it takes about 1.4 thousand rubles per square meter. For a greenhouse of 500 sq. m. will require 700 thousand rubles per year.

Hence, the total annual cost of maintaining the greenhouse is 2.64 million rubles.

Implementation of green onions

The implementation of green onions, according to the business plan, will be carried out in several ways:

  • Carry out wholesale deliveries to retail grocery stores and retail chains. To work with stores, large volumes of production and high-quality packaging of goods (for example, in stretch film) are required.
  • Offer green onions to wholesale resellers. In this case, the price will be slightly lower, however, there is no need to pack the goods and there is less headache with sales.
  • To supply the product to processing industries and public catering enterprises (cafes, restaurants).

How much can you earn by growing green onions

Chives are a profitable plant. From one kilogram of planting material (bulbs), it receives up to 2 kilograms of green onions.

Some technologies (for example, bridge planting) allow up to 800 bulbs to be placed on one square meter. One square meter can grow up to 5 kg of green onions per month. Accordingly, from 500 sq. m.

the output will be about 2500 kg per month. The wholesale price of green onions in spring and winter is 150 rubles. per kilogram.

Thus, the proceeds of the greenhouse economy, subject to 100% sales of all grown products, will amount to 375 thousand rubles. For a year, taking into account the non-seasonal summer period (income is 2 times less), you can earn up to 4 million rubles.

The profit of the greenhouse farm for growing green onions, according to the calculations of the business plan, will be: 4,000,000 - 2,640,000 = 1,360,000 rubles. With such indicators, the project pays off in just over two years. The business profitability is 51%.

This is a complete, ready-made project that you will not find in the public domain.

To grow green onions, it is necessary to equip the room with instantaneous water heaters, with the help of which warm watering of plants will be carried out. Ideal when the crop is grown on purchased soil using fertilizers. For lighting, you need ultraviolet lamps.

All equipment can be purchased from specialized stores. Many offer discounts when buying wholesale.

It is possible to shorten the growing period of greens and increase the yield using the aeroponics growing method. The technology will require special equipment worth about 4 thousand rubles. for 1 sq. m. It is advisable to use it for areas over 100 square meters. m.

Do not forget about the equipment for packaging finished products. It is easier and more profitable to buy devices in online stores.

What documents are needed to open a business

Growing green onions for your own purposes is not a commercial activity.

But if you are engaged in the business of growing greenery, you will need to register with the tax office.

To legalize the activity, it is enough to register an individual entrepreneur, providing a photocopy of the passport, an application and a receipt for payment of the state duty.

Which taxation system to choose

For a green onion growing business, it is best to apply an ESHN of 6%.

Do I need permission to open

Running a greenhouse business does not require licensing or certification.

Business start-up technology

You can grow onions for greens in glass, polycarbonate or film greenhouses. Glass greenhouses are much more expensive, but allow you to grow greenery all year round.

Film greenhouses are most often used by entrepreneurs at the initial stage of their business. Polycarbonate greenhouses are the golden mean for growing.

The modern device is robust, durable and allows you to grow crops in the cold season.

Onions can be grown in 2 ways: from seedlings and by seeds. The choice of agricultural technology depends on the equipment and the desired result.

How to start an onion growing business from scratch: profitability, costs

The green onion growing business has a high profitability and return on initial costs (~ 1 year) and year-round demand.

Green onions contain more than 7 beneficial vitamins that preserve health and immunity.

The production itself does not require complex technological equipment, and the use of hydroponics and aeroponics systems significantly increases the yield. In this article, we will consider a business plan for growing onions from scratch with calculations.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Onion Growing Business

Green onion feathers are a source of various vitamins and useful substances: phytoncides and enzymes. Green onions contain in 100 g: daily intake of vitamin C to maintain immunity, phosphorus to strengthen tooth enamel, vitamin A (beta-carotene), vitamin B1 (thiamine) - regulates protein, carbohydrate and fat metabolism, B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B9 (folic acid), E (tekeforol) - has a positive effect on hair, nails and skin. Green onions are used to treat vitamin deficiency, reduce the level of bad cholesterol in the blood - this makes it a useful and attractive product.

Let's take a look at a few agricultural considerations for increasing yields:

  1. The quantity and quality of onion feathers are not related to the size of the bulb itself. A root vegetable weighing 50 grams and a diameter of 5-6 cm is pointless to use for forcing. Such planting material can only be planted if the bulb has already begun to germinate.
  2. The optimal size of root crops for organizing a business project is from 25 to 40 g and a diameter of no more than 4 cm. The root crop itself must not be damaged!
  3. Determine in what conditions the green onions will be grown - in the field or in greenhouses. Polycarbonate greenhouses are recommended because they have good illumination and transparency. Best suited for a greenhouse: Troitsky, Bessonovsky and Spassky onions. You can increase yields by using multi-root onions.(the output of a feather can be up to 10 kg. per 1 sq. m.)!
  4. To harvest a quick harvest, the temperature in the greenhouse should not fall below 10-15 degrees; lamps can be used to maintain it.
  5. It is better to plant onions in greenhouses next to tomatoes, eggplants or beets - this will saturate the soil with the necessary elements.
  6. To reduce the cost of purchasing planting material, the cost of which ranges from 5 to 10 rubles per kilogram, it is more expedient to grow root crops from seeds ("nigella").

One of the fastest planting methods is the belt method, when the onion is planted in the made furrows at a distance of 1-4 cm and after that the gap is covered with earth.

Consider the technology of growing onions on an industrial scale. There are two approaches to onion production: outdoor cultivation and greenhouse cultivation.

Outdoor harvest

As a planting material, not only seeds are used - "nigella", but also small bulbs - wild oat. Root crops of a fine fraction are obtained as a result of dense sowing of onion seeds.

The wild oat is planted in open ground a few weeks before the first frost, with the onset of spring heat the first shoots appear. On average, onions grow for 21 days. In March, it is necessary to remove the snow on the site, water the onions with warm water and apply fertilizers that stimulate growth.

As a result of such actions, the crop will be received two weeks ahead of schedule.

Onion seeds are planted for the purpose of growing planting material and feathers for sale.

If you plan to get wild oats, carry out sowing work from the second half of spring until the beginning of summer. The best time to start a business is autumn.

Planting for onion feathers is carried out from August to September, the seeds are left to winter in the ground and the first crop is harvested in spring.

Forcing onions in the greenhouse

According to experts, the use of greenhouse areas significantly increases the profitability of the project (Read: business plan for opening a greenhouse facility in the country).

To obtain a large and yield, the planting material is soaked for twelve hours in water at a temperature of + 35-38 degrees and then kept at a temperature of + 29-30 degrees for a day.

The planting method is chosen depending on the season and the degree of illumination. The bridging scheme is used for forcing until the second half of February.

Methods for increasing the yield of green onions

To increase the yield of onion feathers, you can use the following approaches:

  • Loosening the soil - allows you to deliver oxygen to the horse system of the onion. A hard crust must not be allowed to form on the soil surface! For 2-3 days after watering, it is necessary to loosen the soil.
  • Watering onions - water is one of the main nutrients for feather growth, so watering should be done 2 times a week! If the climate is extremely hot and dry, the frequency of watering can be up to 3 times a week. Also, the younger the onion, the more moisture it needs.
  • Top dressing of onions - when watering, nitroammofoska solutions are added to the water to enhance feather growth. It is recommended to use top dressing after the first cut to stimulate further feather growth.
  • Weed Removal - Keep the soil free of weeds and other crops. If dill is planted between the beds when growing onions, this is not done when growing onion feathers.
  • Covering the beds for the winter - in the winter, the onion is covered with humus at 3-3.5 cm or straw and peat.

Growing a crop is only half of the success, the second half is the sale and sale of onion feathers. The product is perishable therefore it is important to create a distribution network even before planting.

On average, the monthly volume of products will be from 300 to 500 kg, the cost varies from 10 to 60 rubles per kilogram, depending on the season of the year. In winter periods, the cost does not fall below 100 rubles, since below this threshold it is no longer profitable. Consider the possible points of sale for the crop:

What form of business to choose?

Let's analyze the different forms of doing business in the table below.

Business organization form Benefits of using
Private household plots (private household plots)This form is only used by individuals to sell products to large distributors. The possibility of organizing with a plot of up to 2 hectares, simple requirements, you only need to get a certificate from the local administration that this plot belongs to you and is used for growing onions.
IE (individual entrepreneur)This form is used for self-sale of products. The IP status gives the manufacturer legal force and allows him to organize the implementation himself. The ability to create a sales network. The process of product certification is becoming more complicated.
LLC (limited liability company)This form is used for additional financing of a business through agricultural loans, when hiring employees. It is used to work with shops, wholesalers.
KFH (peasant farm)This form is used to attract partners to your business. KFH simplified form LLP (limited liability partnership), as well as individual entrepreneurs and LLCs, are endowed with legal force. There is an opportunity to work with shops and wholesale suppliers.

Initially, you can register as a private subsidiary and start selling in small batches, to set up all production processes and sales channels.

Private household plots do not pay taxes on any volume of production.

To scale production and increase sales, you must register as an individual entrepreneur.

For an individual entrepreneur the optimal choice of the taxation system for agricultural producers the unified agricultural tax (UAT).

General investment costs, profitability of a business project

Investment costs for the implementation of the project: costs of registering a private household, individual entrepreneur, LLC or peasant farm (~ 10,000 rubles), land lease, technical equipment, planting material

Onion planting area

The minimum production area that can provide profit is one hundred square meters for growing feathers and 30 m2 for storing crops. If all the recommendations and the technological process are followed, one hundred square meters can grow from 300 to 600 kg. onion feather.

Practical lesson on creating a greenhouse

Watch a practical video tutorial on how to make a DIY greenhouse for growing green onions.

Technical equipment

In this expense item, you need to take into account the lighting system, irrigation, heating, equipment for processing seedlings. If you plan to sell the crop to supermarkets, you will need consumables for packaging products.

Planting material

This is the main item of expenses, because the volume of the crop and the demand for it, therefore, the profitability of the entire project depend on the quality of the planting material.

Half-bridge planting method, requires 3 to 6 kg. for each square meter, the yield is from 12 to 15 kg. per square meter.

With the bridge planting method, the volume of planting material increases to 8-12 kg. per square meter.

It should be borne in mind that the financial investments for growing crops in the open field and in greenhouse conditions are different.

The profitability of a business in the field under favorable circumstances can reach 50%, while the economic efficiency of a project in a greenhouse does not exceed 30%. There are objective reasons for this:

To organize a business on green onions, you need a start-up capital of at least 100-150 thousand rubles, the payback period is from 6 to 12 months.

Also, if you do not have your own land plot, then the cost of the project will increase by the amount of lease payments.

One of the highly profitable types of business is growing roses in a greenhouse, the profitability of such a project reaches 300%.

Drawing up a business plan for growing green onions: where to start?

  • We draw up a business plan
  • We evaluate our capabilities
  • Choosing seedlings
  • Care and prevention
  • Deciding on sales options

Growing green onions as a business is distinguished by a high return, which is due to the steady demand for products throughout the year, the unpretentiousness of onions in comparison with other crops, as well as high profitability, since this business requires a relatively small initial investment.

We draw up a business plan

There are a lot of pitfalls in green business. But the most important thing that you should have when implementing a project for growing green onions, in addition to your desire, is a solid business plan, in drawing up which you need to pay special attention to the following issues:

  • study of demand, selection of options for selling products;
  • identification and assessment of production options (cultivation in the open field, greenhouse, garage, basement, etc.), cost analysis;

This is the most important part of your business plan. The more carefully you approach this section, the less likely there will be unforeseen costs in the future that can negate all your efforts;

  • drawing up a production map (selection of varieties, planning a harvest schedule).

Establishing a process is half the battle, it is important to learn how to manage it correctly. Therefore, the next step towards realizing your business project is planning a profitable harvest schedule.

Make a production plan. This is necessary in order to get the most out of the most appropriate times (New Year, Easter, March 8, etc.)

), when the demand and cost for greens grow 2-3 times.

Of course, it is easiest to plant and harvest in the summer.

The ideal option in this case would be to have your own land plot, since seeds, fertilizers and a greenhouse are all you need.

In the warm season, growing green onions gives the greatest return, the profitability is at least 50-60%.

When choosing a place to grow, you need to take into account the climatic conditions in your region. Keep in mind that green onions grow and thrive in temperatures 14-17 degrees above zero. In the southern regions, a greenhouse covered with plastic wrap is suitable.

The cost price of this material is much lower than that of glass and polycarbonate, but it does a wonderful job with the functions assigned to it, perfectly transmitting sunlight and heat.

In colder climates, a polycarbonate greenhouse can be used, but it is more expensive.

Some entrepreneurs practice growing greenery in greenhouses using the hydroponic method, in which the plants are not planted in the soil, as their roots are placed in a special liquid enriched with a complex of nutrients.

This method of growing green onions has two major advantages. First, it will significantly shorten the growth period.

Secondly, this method makes it possible to use in greenhouses a multi-level system of beds in special suspended flower beds, which will significantly increase the volume of the crop.

However, it should be noted that this approach to organizing the cultivation of green onions has a serious disadvantage. According to many experts, onions grown using the hydroponic method are significantly inferior in taste to the harvest taken from the ground.

Firstly, in this case, you will provide your future harvest with a stable microclimate and optimal temperature regime, and you will be able to minimize the dependence of the result on external weather conditions.

Secondly, the process of watering and fertilizing greenhouse beds is much easier and better than the whole garden as a whole. And with timely watering and weeding, the yield of cold-resistant crops will increase at least 2 times.

Thirdly, growing green onions in a greenhouse from March to November will allow you to increase yields by 5-6 times by increasing the garden season.

In the absence of a suitable free land plot, you can start a business in a garage or cellar. It should be noted that by planting onions in different periods in protected and open ground, you can get an optimal return, getting the harvest throughout the year.

Onions can be planted as bulbs and sowed. Greenhouses usually grow greens from bulbs.

Growing plants from seeds is not the best solution, the sprouts are weak, grow slower and require more maintenance.

It is the bulbs that have properties that are significantly superior to those of seeds: onions grow several times faster and differ favorably in taste.

Purchase quality material for planting.

The greatest selective effect of their seedlings was achieved by the producers of Holland (varieties Gollandskiy yellow, Red Baron, Spirit F1, Exhibishen, Margit F1) and Japan (varieties Nagaoka King, Nubuka Green). Among the products of German breeders for early greens, pay attention to the Stuttgarter Riesen variety.

To obtain the maximum result, when drawing up a business plan for growing green onions, pay special attention to the issue of selecting types and varieties of planting material, as well as methods of growing green onions at different times of the year. Knowing the basic biological characteristics of different onion varieties and the requirements for growing conditions will allow you to maximize your bottom line.

For example, onions are not suitable for growing in a greenhouse in autumn and winter, since at this time they are in deep dormancy. In addition, this bow is especially picky about light.

In the fall, perennial varieties of onions should be planted, they do not have a dormant period: multi-tiered, slime, chives. Already from November, you can plant a bunch of onions.

From December, you can profitably grow shallots in winter greenhouses.

Healthy, nutritious, weed-free soil and uniform moisture are key to growing quality produce. It is equally important to ensure that the soil is loosened regularly during the entire period of growing green onions.

To minimize losses during the growth of green onions, use high-quality fertilizers and chemicals to combat insect pests.

Don't trust growers who say they don't use chemicals to grow greens - this is just a publicity stunt.

Nowadays there are many gentle chemicals, the use of which will not only protect your products from pests, but also give them an excellent presentation. Include the appropriate line item in your plan.

When drawing up a business plan for growing green onions, the issue of selling the crop is of no small importance. The simplest and less troublesome way is to sell to wholesale buyers. The main disadvantage of this option for selling greenery is the minimum price.

You can rent a point at the grocery market. At the same time, the price of the goods is an order of magnitude higher than that of wholesalers, but here there are also disadvantages - additional costs for renting a trading place and salary of the seller.

An excellent alternative distribution channel is the supply of products to a store, supermarket or restaurant.

If you choose to sell onions directly through stores as an option for marketing onions, be sure to include the costs of packaging finished products in your business plan for organizing the cultivation of green onions. Therefore, contact the suppliers of food packaging in advance and conclude the appropriate agreements.

When choosing your marketing options, remember that chives are delicate, perishable, and cannot be stored for a long time. This will protect you from unwanted problems and losses.

Take the process of getting to know this type of business very carefully. If you pay close attention to each point of your business plan, you can avoid many unnecessary problems and turn the cultivation of green onions into a highly profitable and possibly family-owned business.

A ready-made business plan for growing green onions in a greenhouse

Fresh vegetables are especially popular among the population.

Most preferred are vegetables from local producers that do not use chemical elements to maintain freshness and extend shelf life.

In connection with this fact, we can safely assume that a business plan for growing green onions in a greenhouse will find its buyer and will have large sales volumes.

How much funds will be required to open

An example of a business plan for growing green onions in greenhouses begins with a preliminary estimate of all the costs that the owner of the organization will face. In our case, the greenhouse will be built from scratch.

In addition to all this, we will need to buy material for planting, which will cost 50 thousand rubles. 150 thousand rubles will be required for registration of the land plot.

To bring communications to the greenhouse, we will give another 100 thousand rubles. The most important thing in all this is the purchase of a vehicle for the transportation of finished products to the place of their sale.

The cost of its purchase will be 500 thousand rubles.

Growing onions in a greenhouse

Thus, in order to open your own business and draw up a business plan for growing onions from scratch, you need to have 2 million 800 thousand rubles on hand.

Fixed costs that the owner will face

The main costs of the greenhouse that will have to be faced in the process of growing onions are the remuneration of the employees of the organization and the costs associated with electricity.

For the full functioning of the greenhouse, two employees are required to maintain it, whose duties will include planting the onion, cutting it and packing it for transportation.

One handyman, driver, to deliver the finished product to retail outlets. We will outsource all accounting issues to a third-party organization.

The total salary of all employees will be 100 thousand rubles every month and 1 million 200 thousand rubles annually.

Also, the main costs will be spent on utilities. About 740 thousand per year and about 62 thousand rubles per month will be spent on payment for electricity. Gas heating will cost us almost 33 thousand rubles a month.

The remaining costs of the greenhouse will be directly related to the finished product itself - its packaging, transportation, purchase of fertilizers and new material for the next planting. All this, as well as the payment of tax, will have to spend 700 thousand annually or about 58 thousand monthly.

Thus, in order to maintain the greenhouse throughout the year, we will need to spend 2 million 540 thousand rubles.

Sales of finished products

A ready-made business plan for growing green onions in a greenhouse also assumes the presence of sales channels.

There are several options in total:

  1. Supply products to the party's grocery stores, based on bulk purchases. But for this we need high-quality packaging for onions and large production volumes.
  2. Sell through dealers in bulk. There are pluses and minuses here. The purchase cost will be much less, but you will not need to bother with the packaging of the finished product.
  3. Arrange supplies in the catering network.

Sale of onions to wholesale buyers

The amount of possible earnings

A sample business plan for growing green onions in greenhouse conditions also includes preliminary calculations for possible earnings. It is important to know that even one kilogram of planting material we can get already 2 kilograms of finished products.

There is a special planting technology, thanks to which you can plant up to 800 bulbs on one square meter of land and harvest 5 kilograms.

Therefore, if we have a greenhouse with an area of 500 square meters and plant it all using this technology, we will be able to collect 2.5 thousand kilograms of green onions every month.

Thus, if you adhere to the figures provided by the business plan for growing green onions, then deducting fixed monthly costs from this amount, we will receive a net profit of the organization in the amount of 1 million 360 thousand. The full payback of the money invested in this business will occur two years after the start of sales.

Step-by-step plan for opening a greenhouse

This stage includes the following steps:

  1. The first step is to conduct market research and determine the popularity of this type of product among buyers.
  2. Study in detail the possible channels of implementation.
  3. Develop a business plan for growing green onions.
  4. Register a future business.
  5. Buy the required amount of material for sowing.
  6. Prepare equipment.
  7. Start launching your business.

What equipment should you choose

In order to start growing onions, we need to purchase flow-through water heaters for the entire greenhouse room. With their help, watering with warm water will take place. UV lamps should be purchased to illuminate and promote rapid growth.

We must buy all this in a specialized store and preferably in bulk, which will be much cheaper than buying one by one.

With all this, one should not forget about the packaging material of the finished product.

Greenhouse flow system

OKVED code

In our case, two codes may be suitable: 12.2 - entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector and 12.1 - growing vegetables.

List of required documentation

If you grow vegetables for your own consumption, then you do not need to get any permission.

But, if it is subject to implementation, then we must register with the tax office. For the business to be legal, registration of an individual entrepreneur will be required.

To do this, we just need to provide a passport, an application and pay the state fee.

Tax system

In our case, it will be the Unified Agricultural Tax, and its size will be 6%.

Opening permission

The greenhouse business is not classified as licensed and is not subject to certification.

Opening technology

For growing green onions, you can use three types of greenhouses: glass, film and polycarbonate.

The third option is the best, since it has great durability and it is possible to grow vegetables in it all year round.

The onion itself can be grown both from seeds and from seedlings.

Businessman, investor.
For communication:

Green onions organically complement the taste of many dishes, giving it a fresh spring flavor while saturating food with various vitamins. This product is in demand all year round, but you can find it in abundance on the shelves only in the summer, when farmers and villagers harvest from the open field.

Considering onion cultivation as a business, it can be noted that this type of activity is not only profitable, but also affordable for beginners: agricultural technology is a set of simple and understandable operations, and the culture itself does not require complex care and the creation of special microclimatic conditions. Therefore, even beginner entrepreneurs who follow the recommendations can plant several beds and get a good harvest with minimal labor costs.

Business features

The technology of growing onions on a feather at home is known to every housewife: in the spring, on the windowsills of many houses and apartments, you can see jars and glasses filled with onions filled with water. However, such primitive hydroponic installations can hardly be called productive: the harvest obtained is not even enough to meet personal needs. Therefore, in business we are talking about a slightly different scale: in summer, onions are massively cultivated in beds directly in the open field, and in winter they use heated and unheated greenhouse complexes for these purposes.

If you have a land plot, the summer option seems to be the simplest, since only planting material, water and fertilizers are needed to grow onions for sale. However, in the warm season, numerous summer residents and rural residents compete with the farmer, massively filling the markets with their goods. As a result, the supply exceeds demand many times, the price decreases, and the timely sale of perishable products is under the threat of disruption.

The situation looks somewhat different in the off-season and in winter: in principle, green onions are absent on the market, and a few suppliers cannot cope with the requests of stores and supermarkets. As a result, the price of fresh feathers increases four to five times, which fully compensates for the huge costs of maintaining greenhouse complexes. Moreover, growing onions for feathers in a greenhouse in winter under controlled conditions increases crop productivity by 30-50% and allows harvesting every 35-45 days.

Considering the above, we can highlight the main advantages and disadvantages of the business idea of growing onions. The former include the following factors:

  • Even in winter, the profitability of the enterprise exceeds 150%;
  • There are special varieties that can be cultivated all year round;
  • Greens are constantly in high demand among buyers;
  • A business can be started on a personal plot in a small greenhouse;
  • The technology for growing green onions in greenhouses is accessible and understandable for beginners;
  • The huge sales market allows you to quickly find buyers without significant marketing costs.

Listing the main disadvantages of a business, it should be noted that:

  • The cost of an industrial greenhouse complex exceeds the capabilities of many aspiring entrepreneurs;
  • Market price fluctuations can be unpredictable;
  • The products are characterized by a short shelf life;
  • At the beginning of summer, the level of competition exceeds reasonable limits.

Varieties for cultivation

The construction and maintenance of winter greenhouses is expensive for an entrepreneur. Therefore, considering the cultivation of green onions as a business, it is necessary to pay special attention to the issue of selecting productive varieties that can grow and give a good harvest in artificial conditions. For example, in autumn and winter, it makes no sense to plant onions in closed ground, since this species is characterized by a long dormant period: at this time, the buds of shoots are still absent in the bulbs - accordingly, even with the use of special technologies, they will not germinate.

Fortunately, there are other types of onions that have a dormant period of no more than a few weeks - bunch of onions, tiered onions, chives, slugs or shallots:

  1. Batun onion. The leaves are similar in appearance and taste to those of the common onion species, but this variety does not form a real bulb, so farmers are more likely to grow onions from seeds for greens. At a temperature of 15 ° C and a humidity of 80–85%, the yield of the batun reaches 3.5–4 kg / m²;
  2. Leek. Broad, garlic-like feathers grow on a thick white stem, which is also edible. For its formation, the shoots obtained from seeds are planted in grooves 8–10 cm deep, gradually adding soil in the process of growth. Average crop yield - 2 kg / m²;
  3. Shallot. It also resembles onions, but differs from it in strong branching and the structure of the bulb, more like a garlic one: in each nest up to 10 lobes are formed, simultaneously releasing shoots. Feathers up to 30 cm long can be harvested in a month; the yield in this case is 3-4 kg / m²;
  4. Chives bow. They eat not only narrow long leaves, but also false bulbs with a diameter of up to 1 cm. The yield reaches 3 kg / m², but this variety needs a special lighting regime - otherwise the shoots grow thin and pale green. Chives are propagated by dividing the rhizome;
  5. Slime onion. A feature of this species are wide feathers with a garlic smell, filled with slimy juice. Perennial slime does not have a dormant period and grows continuously, and the maximum yield is reached in the third year - up to 4.5 kg / m². For reproduction, cultivation of onions from seeds and dividing the rhizome into shoots are practiced with equal success;
  6. Multi-tiered bow. Also called Egyptian. It is characterized by the formation of small aerial bulbs at the ends of the shoots, from which young feathers subsequently grow. For 25-40 days, the leaves grow up to 45 cm, and the yield reaches 4 kg / m². Egyptian onions are grown from both underground and aerial bulbs;
  7. Onion. The most common species, driving feathers up to 30 cm long in a month. For growing green onions at home, southern varieties with a short dormant period are used. The crop yield when using intensive technologies reaches 13-15 kg / m².

Growing methods

To grow onions, it is necessary to ensure the supply of nutrients and moisture to its roots. Suitable methods for this can be classified according to the planting method and the type of soil:

  1. In the soil. Light types of soils saturated with organic matter are used as soil - for example, garden soil or a mixture of peat and sand. At the same time, agricultural technology is the same for all varieties, differences are observed only in the way of reproduction. In the open field, seeds are planted in early spring for a summer harvest, or at the end of summer for wintering the plant under the snow. In the greenhouse, seeds are sown at any time, and last year's planting material - at the end of a dormant period, the duration of which is determined by the type of onion;
  2. On sawdust. The main advantages of sawdust are its loose structure and the ability to hold water well. However, this material does not contain nutrients in a form accessible to plants, therefore, the beds should be regularly watered with a solution of NPK-complex fertilizers, adding wood ash and saltpeter as needed. On the other hand, sawdust does not stick to the feathers at all and does not pollute the bulbs, which somewhat simplifies the harvesting process. In addition, this material does not need to be changed after each cycle - it is enough to add a fresh layer of 2-3 cm on top and water it abundantly;
  3. In hydroponics. Hydroponic onion growing technology involves the use of special mats saturated with a nutrient solution. As a basis for them, coconut fiber is used, which has an optimal structure for the root system and good hygroscopicity. For the rapid development of roots, the plants are kept in the dark for the first 10 days, and at the end of their germination, they switch to normal daylight hours;
  4. Aeroponics. Aeroponic installations do not use any kind of substrate at all, which excludes contact with dirt and prevents the development of many types of diseases. The essence of the method is as follows: plants are placed in special containers so that the entire root system is in the air. Onion feeding is carried out by continuous irrigation of the roots with a fertilizer solution in the form of an aerosol, which contributes to the maximum saturation of the shoots with oxygen and the achievement of the highest yield.

Cultivation technologies

To grow green onions at home, two main technologies are used - obtaining seedlings from seeds and forcing feathers from last year's small bulbs, also called sevk:
  1. Use of seeds. Seeds purchased or obtained independently are heated, soaked in water, treated with a solution of potassium permanganate, and then sown with continuous lines with an interval between rows of 7-10 cm. When planning to grow onions from seeds in one season, it should be borne in mind that the growing season in this case takes two three months, and the feather turns out to be thin and short, since all the forces of the plant are concentrated on the formation of the bulb.
  2. Using sevka. At the same time, the growing season does not exceed one month: even in the open field, four crops can be obtained per season. To grow green onions, they buy varietal types of sets or a sample - medium-sized bulbs with a diameter of up to 5 cm, which are planted in two ways:
  • Sostov - the garden bed is completely covered with touching bulbs, and the planting density is 15-22 kg / m²;
  • Ribbon - the bulbs are planted in two lines with an interval of 3-4 cm and a line spacing of 10-20 cm.

Obviously, the paving method allows you to get the maximum yield per square meter - up to 16 kilograms of green onions. The sequence of operations for planting material using this technique is as follows:

  • The top of each onion is cut off along the shoulders, and then the planting material is kept in hot water for several hours;
  • The bulbs are planted closely, without gaps, on beds or in trays, burying them in the ground by about half;
  • At the end of planting, the plantation is watered abundantly.

It should be remembered that with such a planting density, the costs of purchasing planting material proportionally increase, therefore, the choice of one or another method requires preliminary calculations.

Preparation

A large onion contains enough nutrients to forge beautiful green feathers. However, when planting seeding, the plant's own resources are not enough to obtain a good harvest, therefore, among other preparatory measures, time should be allocated to prepare an organic-enriched soil mixture.

Onions prefer light and breathable sandy loam or loam, but forming a crust. The pH should be neutral, as high acidity negatively affects plant growth. Ordinary garden soil mixed with peat and sand seems to be the ideal option. The main inorganic fertilizers should also be added to this mixture:

  • Nitrogen - 10 g / m²;
  • Phosphoric anhydride - 7–7.5 g / m²;
  • Potassium oxide - 18–20 g / m².

Planting material is purchased in the fall: the required number of seedlings or samples can be purchased from farmers or at wholesalers. Bulbs suitable for forcing are characterized by the presence of at least two or three shoot buds: to be sure of the quality of the batch, you need to take a few pieces at random from each bag and cut them across.

In addition, bulbs are often treated with a formulation that inhibits bud formation and prevents germination during storage. Of course, such planting material is unsuitable for further use. That is why it is recommended to buy a sample immediately after harvesting: in this case, the likelihood of not being treated with chemicals is much higher.

Growing and care

The productivity of a crop is determined not only by the composition of the soil: the high yield of onions is equally determined by proper care and the provision of microclimatic conditions comfortable for the plant. According to the requirements of the technology for growing onions on a feather in a greenhouse, during the forcing process, attention must be paid to the following issues:

Temperature regime

The culture grows better in relatively cool air, therefore, when planting seeds, the temperature before the appearance of the first shoots is set at 23-24 ° C, and then gradually reduced to 18 ° C. At night, the temperature in the greenhouse should be kept at 13–15 ° C with a humidity of 75–85%.

Lighting

Taking into account the reduction in daylight hours in the cold season, the onions must be additionally illuminated so that the total duration of the light period is 13-15 hours per day. Recommended illumination level - 3000 lux: when there is a lack of light, feathers grow pale yellow and tasteless. Lamps are placed strictly on top of the beds to avoid creases and lodging of young shoots.

Watering

You need to water the onion regularly, with extremely warm water, periodically dissolving medications and fertilizers in it. An approximate watering scheme is as follows:

  • The first time the soil is moistened immediately after planting, using a weak solution of potassium permanganate. The recommended rate is 7-10 l / m². If the farmer is confident in the cleanliness and sterility of the soil, the absence of pests, fungal spores and mold in it, then the addition of disinfectants to the water can be abandoned;
  • A week later, during the second irrigation, Fitosporin is dissolved in water, intended to fight various diseases. The approximate rate of fluid consumption is 3-5 l / m²;
  • In the future, the onions are watered every 4–5 days according to the rate of 5–6 l / m².

Top dressing

When using fertile soils saturated with organic matter, the onions should not be fed. On sawdust and depleted soils, 14 days after planting, it is necessary to perform a single top dressing with 0.15% nitrophoska solution or 0.2% ammonium nitrate solution. You can also water the beds with a 0.2% solution of superphosphate and potassium sulfate.

Pest control

Feathers that have grown to 15 cm should be treated with an aqueous solution of liquid soap and copper sulfate (one spoon per bucket of water) according to the rate of 0.5 l / m². Plants showing traces of fungi, plaque or drying of leaves should be destroyed to avoid contamination of the entire plantation.

Harvesting

If the above requirements are met, onion feathers reach a marketable length of 30 cm in about three weeks. When starting to harvest, the leaves are slightly squeezed into a bunch at a distance of 10–13 cm from the bulb, and then cut off at a height of 4–5 cm. Small shoots and arrows fall out.

The collected onions are placed in plastic bags and kept at a temperature of 12-15 ° C for two hours. Then the bags are sealed and laid out in boxes, placing the plants with the roots to one side. It is not recommended to fill the container to the top in order to avoid damage to the greenery during storage and transportation. Pending realization, onions are stored in a refrigerator at a temperature of 0 ° C for 20 days.

The appearance of the product is of no small importance for successful implementation. Therefore, you need to cut off the feathers carefully so as not to damage them, not to stain them in the ground and not to wipe off the wax coating from the leaves, which retains moisture inside. A quality product that attracts the attention of buyers and resellers, has a length of 25-30 cm and a rich dark green color.

Sales organization

Aspiring entrepreneurs are usually confident that shoppers will sweep fresh onions off the shelves any time of the year. However, in reality, the sales situation is not so optimistic: firstly, the high price of the product in the off-season scares off customers with low incomes, and secondly, few people buy more than two or three bundles at a time. Thus, it is almost impossible to quickly sell a ton of green feathers without significant effort, and therefore, in a business plan for growing onions, the following ways of selling goods should be separately considered:

  • Wholesale sales. There are companies that buy agricultural products in bulk in almost every region. In addition, you can use the Internet: both buyers and sellers place their ads on virtual trading platforms. This method is considered the simplest and least expensive;
  • Sale to catering establishments. In this case, the entrepreneur will have to make some efforts and convince the owners of cafes, canteens and restaurants who are already working with some suppliers of the prospects of cooperation;
  • Working with grocery stores. For buyers of this kind, price, volumes, delivery times, availability of a return and a deferred payment are important. In addition, products for sale are accepted in packaged form, and therefore the farmer will have to include in the business plan the costs of purchasing packaging material;
  • Self-sale. This method is associated with maximum costs: to sell green onions in kiosks and markets, it is necessary to hire sellers and equip retail outlets with refrigeration equipment.

It should also be noted that in order to grow onions all year round, a business will have to be registered: having the status of an individual entrepreneur or a peasant farm simplifies the procedure for issuing certificates of conformity for products and allows you to provide customers with various accompanying documents that are legally binding.

Greenhouse equipment

As a business, feather onion farming requires careful preparation of the production base. First of all, it is necessary to carry out preliminary calculations in order to determine the necessary quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the equipment. Thus, the creation of a 175 m² greenhouse complex includes the purchase and installation of equipment according to the following specification:

  1. Greenhouse frame. As a basis, a serial model with a width of 7.5 m and a length of 23.4 m is used, made of a shaped metal pipe and installed on a strip concrete foundation;
  2. Coating. In cold climates, cellular polycarbonate with a thickness of 8–10 mm serves as a covering material. The polymer is characterized by high light transmittance and low heat transfer coefficient, which minimizes energy consumption to create optimal conditions for growing green onions;
  3. Shelving. To ensure rapid heating of the soil in the beds and facilitate access to plants, a multi-tiered shelving system should be installed in the greenhouse. At the same time, onions are planted in wooden or plastic trays, placed on shelves;
  4. Lighting. The level of illumination required for growing green onions in winter in conditions of short daylight hours is created by attaching a sodium, halogen or LED lamp above each shelf, and the latter option allows you to create the required luminous flux with minimal energy consumption;
  5. Irrigation. To automate the irrigation process in greenhouse complexes, drip systems are used, which allow not only to control the amount of moisture entering the beds, but also to feed the plants by dissolving fertilizers in water. In the absence of such, the beds can be watered with an ordinary watering can;
  6. Ventilation. When onions are grown for greens, carbon dioxide is emitted into the environment, which is removed using ceiling exhaust fans with a capacity of 1600 m³ / h each. In this case, fresh air enters through air intakes protected by filters from the ingress of insect pests. Each air intake is additionally equipped with a water heat exchanger designed to heat the incoming air flow;
  7. Heating. The basis of the heating system is a hot water boiler connected with polypropylene pipes to radiators located along the walls. The calculation shows that the heat loss from the greenhouse surface at an outside air temperature of –30 ° C is not less than 48–50 kW. Thus, taking into account the reserve, the required boiler power is taken equal to 70 kW.

Investments

Growing onions in a greenhouse is a business that requires serious investment on an industrial scale. An entrepreneur who already has a land plot of the required size must first of all purchase equipment and register his activities with the appropriate authorities: the total costs for these items are 1,342,080 rubles.

The next group of expenses is associated with the purchase of raw materials necessary for growing green onions - planting material, soil, fertilizers. It should be noted that with a production cycle of 45 days, plants can be planted and harvested eight times a year (twice a season):

  • Planting material. With a bridge planting method, up to 150 bulbs with a diameter of 4 cm and a weight of 40 g each are placed in a 40x60 cm tray. Thus, in terms of 576 trays, the weight of the planting material is 3460 kg. The cost of seeding at wholesale depots is 18 rubles per kilogram;
  • Priming. To fill the specified number of trays in each cycle, it is necessary to prepare or buy 9.7 m³ of substrate at a price of 800 rubles per cubic meter;
  • Firewood. Dry chopped firewood is purchased once a year: to heat the greenhouse during the cold period, it is enough to prepare 90–100 m³ of logs. The cost of birch firewood - 1300 rubles / m³, pine - 900 rubles / m³;
  • Lighting. With a total power of 4.8 kW lamps, electricity consumption is 28.8 kW per day in winter, and 14.4 kW per day in autumn and spring, which is due to a change in the length of daylight hours. In summer, when growing onions on a feather in a greenhouse, artificial lighting is not required.

Income and profitability

Experienced gardeners claim that the total mass of green leaves at the first cut reaches 50-70% of the initial weight of the bulb. The tray for growing onions for feathers holds 6 kg of planting material: the expected crop weight is 3.6 kg (7.2 kg per season). Taking into account price fluctuations depending on the season, you can calculate the profitability of this type of agricultural activity:

Onion income

It is obvious that, as a business, the cultivation of feather onions is characterized by a high level of profitability: the total profit of the farmer exceeds 2.07 million rubles per year. Other economic indicators of the enterprise are as follows:

Conclusion

Farmers without proper preparation should not start with a large-scale enterprise and invest millions in the construction of an industrial greenhouse complex. For those who do not have experience in agricultural activities, it is better to test their strength in a small greenhouse or plant bulbs in open ground. In two or three seasons, it is quite possible to master the intricacies of green cultivation technology, build up a client base, collect the necessary information and determine what kind of onion cultivation is like a business: video materials on this topic can be found in large quantities on the Internet.

This idea, given the presence of sales markets, has significant potential for expansion: the profit margins allow each year to install new greenhouses, plant various types of greenery (for example, dill and parsley), hire workers and increase production volumes. Thus, with a well-thought-out strategy and a medium-sized greenhouse, you can turn your small business into a large supplier of agricultural products in five to six years.

30.11.2017 Sofia Romkina

The idea of organizing a business on green onions is not new and is based on objective prerequisites: consumer demand and the physiological characteristics of the plant.

Demand drives supply

In the autumn-spring period, when there is an acute shortage of vitamins in the body, the "feather" of green onions is perhaps the most affordable product, both in price and nutritional value, because 100 g of "feather" covers a person's daily need for ascorbic acid , since this amount contains 85 mg of vitamin C (the body needs 50 mg).

  • Read also:

In addition to vitamins, onion greens contain a large amount of biologically active substances (phytoncides, enzymes, etc.) that have a positive effect on the body.

Waste to income!

Often, during storage, onions begin to sprout, while the quality of the goods decreases sharply. Therefore, pragmatic owners have invented an ingenious way of turning a waste product into a source of good income.

Worth knowing: How to build your own?

Success components

For the production of green onions to become a profitable business, you need to thoroughly know all the technological nuances.

  • It is naive to believe that a huge onion will give more "feather" when forcing. Bulbs weighing 40-50 g (with a diameter of more than 4-6 cm) are already unsuitable for forcing, of course, if we are not talking about culled ones that begin to germinate during storage. The greatest yield of "feather" is produced by planting material weighing from 25 to 40 g (diameter 3-4 cm).
  • The chosen cultivation technology is also important, as well as the knowledge of special techniques that stimulate the earliest possible receipt of marketable products.
  • You can grow green onions in the field or in greenhouses.
  • In the agricultural technology of green onions, there are two planting methods. With a bridge scheme, the bulbs are planted tightly to each other. The half-bridge scheme provides for a sparse planting, with a distance between the bulbs of 1-2 cm.
  • Growing green onions for sale in large quantities requires a corresponding investment. Even if you buy planting material from wholesale suppliers or directly from the manufacturer, on average it will cost from 5 to 10 rubles. per kilogram, depending on the batch size. To minimize costs, it is advisable to grow planting material on your own from biological seeds - "nigella".

Cost-effectiveness issues

It is possible to predict the prospect of any type of business only with a careful analysis of the estimated costs. Forcing onions in the open field and growing onions in a greenhouse in winter differ in terms of investment. The profitability of the "greenhouse option" is estimated at about 30%, and the profitability of the "field" farming reaches 50% or more.

  • The profitability of forcing in the open field is much higher than that of greenhouse production, since in the latter case additional costs for heating and ensuring a light regime are inevitable. On the other hand, on the eve of the holidays, green onions increase in price.
  • Possible financial risks should not be disregarded: a sharp decline in the purchase price, quality of seed, etc.

Economic justification

Growing onions as a business has its own economic justification, which has been repeatedly confirmed in practice. To assess the profitability, it is quite appropriate to take into account the cost of maintaining onion culture in protected ground conditions, as the most costly.

Production area

Growing green onions will require an area of at least 1 "hundred square meters" (100 m 3), plus - about 30 m 3 for the organization of storage. From this area you can get 300-600 kg of green onions in 1 month.

Agriculture is one of the most promising areas for doing business. The demand for fresh vegetables is maintained throughout the year, and production costs are easily regulated by the way they are grown. Most farmers start their business with onion cultivation, as it is an unpretentious crop capable of producing a rich harvest in any climatic conditions. To begin with, you need to not only register as an individual entrepreneur, but also draw up a detailed business project that takes into account all the subtleties of the process.

Features of a business plan for growing green onions

Onions are one of the most common crops for industrial and domestic cultivation. The crop can be obtained even in the most severe climates, and if you follow the rules for caring for the planting, proper prevention, you can reduce to a minimum the risk of infection with pests and diseases. You can read more about processing onions before planting.

Growing onions on an industrial scale

Growing onions for sale is permissible in the open field, in a greenhouse or in a specially prepared building (for example, with the hydroponic method). According to statistics, when using equipped greenhouses, you can achieve an increase in yield by 30-40%.

In recent years, agriculture has received strong government support, which has significantly increased competition among farmers. Plus, green onions are products that require certain storage conditions, which complicates the process of transportation and marketing. There are a number of significant advantages to growing onions for sale:

  • varieties have been developed that allow you to grow a crop at any time of the year;
  • there is always a high demand for fresh herbs;
  • at the initial stages, small investments are enough;
  • growing onions is suitable for novice farmers;
  • there are several ways to market products.

Despite the large number of advantages, this type of farming has a number of important disadvantages that should be considered:

  • to achieve high yields, greenhouse equipment costs are required;
  • the price depends on the season, in summer the profit is significantly reduced;
  • products have a short shelf life and sale;
  • by mid-summer, competition is high.

Even at the stage of creating a business plan, you should analyze the state of the market, the relevance of products and think over the sales market. There are several ways to sell:

  • Wholesale trade... The most profitable way to sell finished products. In most localities there are wholesale companies that work directly with suppliers. In recent years, trading platforms for wholesales with different functioning systems (for example, auction) have become widespread.
  • Sale to catering establishments... You will have to directly negotiate the supply of your goods. Most catering establishments already have regular suppliers, so first they need to offer favorable terms of the deal. The demand for green onions for cafes, restaurants or canteens does not depend on the season.
  • Grocery stores... When selling products to retail stores, it is important to remember that there is a risk of returning defective products and replacing defective products. We'll have to lay down the packaging material in the expense items, since all retail chains will definitely require the packaging of the goods. In retail sales, store markup will be added to the product, so your onion will cost more, which may scare off potential buyers.
  • Self sale... With small production volumes, it is most profitable to sell onions by your own efforts in organized trading platforms. This requires the permission of the administrative authorities, as well as the necessary certificates of conformity of product quality. In some situations, cash and refrigeration equipment may be required.

To sell onions in retail and wholesale networks, you must have the status of an individual entrepreneur or a peasant farm, as well as all the necessary certificates confirming the quality of your products.

Expenses

The amount of expenses is determined by several factors - the type of onion, the climate and soil, the method of cultivation. In each case, additional items of expenses are added, for example, for the transportation of goods or maintenance of cash equipment, maintenance of a retail outlet. Usually, the costs come down to arranging the greenhouse, buying planting material and fertilizers.

Necessary equipment

Equipment for growing onions for sale is purchased once, and then investments are required to repair and replace devices.

An example of a greenhouse made of cellular polycarbonate

Allocate the following costs:

  • Greenhouse. This is the largest expense that could overlap onion revenue in the first season. The average price for a greenhouse measuring 3x8 meters is 20 thousand rubles. If you need up to 500 thousand rubles for the construction of a polycarbonate structure.
  • Heating... The investment in heating a greenhouse depends on the heating method. To begin with, you can purchase an ordinary stove-stove, but then you should prepare the fuel in advance. Heating the greenhouse with a birch firewood oven will require up to 10 thousand rubles. It is better to immediately buy infrared heaters for high-quality heating of the room (the average price is 2500 rubles, you need up to 7 devices).
  • Irrigation system... It is advisable to purchase an automatic irrigation system, but if you have access to a water source, you can limit yourself to a compressor and a hose system, which will cost 20-30 thousand rubles for a plot of 10 acres. In the early stages, you can purchase a large water tank, as well as hand-held watering cans. It is important to follow the rules for watering onions both in the open field and in the greenhouse, otherwise you can lose the entire crop. How to water the onion is described.
  • Lighting... Required only in winter for growing in greenhouse conditions. The figures for this article depend on the electricity source and tariff in your area. On average, it is necessary to lay down up to 7 thousand rubles for the use of electrical appliances for one season. Ordinary bulbs are suitable as a light source, but it is better to purchase special light sources for agricultural purposes. It is not recommended to install incandescent lamps - they quickly fail and waste a large amount of electricity.
  • Ventilation... Greenhouse ventilation is essential for the harmonious growth and development of plants. The air circulation system depends on the size of the room and your finances. In the first stages, you can use the vents, but later it is advisable to install fans or air convectors.

You can save on the construction of a greenhouse by building it on its own, as well as by gradually putting structures into operation. If several greenhouses are used at once, huge labor and financial costs are required.

Growing and care

For the industrial cultivation of onions, certain investments are required, especially in the initial stages. In addition to all the costs of registration and registration of individual entrepreneurship and tax deduction, the following costs of growing and care are required per production cycle (from 45 to 120 days):

  • Planting material... To accelerate the ripening of the bulbs for planting use only. 10 acres will require 200 kg of seed. The average price for a set is 20 rubles per 1 kg. Why onion sets are more profitable when planting in the fall can be found on this one.
  • Priming... Needed for greenhouse or tray cultivation. The amount of substrate depends on the volume of the greenhouse. The average price for fertile soil is 380 rubles per 1 m 3.
  • Fertilizers... For optimal plant growth, all three macronutrients are needed - phosphorus, potassium and sodium. They can be added separately or as a compound fertilizer. The amount of top dressing depends on the composition of the soil, on average, up to 15 thousand rubles are needed for fertilizers.

Thus, the cost of cultivation and care can range from 35 to 55 thousand rubles for a plot of 10 acres.

You can improve the greenhouse as you receive income from the sale of products. Until you establish a sales system and reach a decent volume of products, it is worth doing with improvised methods.

Varieties

Choosing the type of onion to grow for sale plays an important role in the profitability of a business. Varieties differ in ripening speed, resistance, yield and growing requirements. The following types of onions are used:

  • ... It has long and narrow feathers with a pleasant taste, as well as a small bulb in diameter. The yield is only 3kg / 1m 2. The variety is picky about lighting conditions, with a lack of light, the greens do not gain volume and turn yellow.
  • ... The leaves taste like the feathers of ordinary onions, but this type of plant does not form a full-fledged root vegetable, therefore it is grown only for greenery. Undemanding to external conditions, the yield reaches 4 kg / 1m 2.
  • ... It is considered one of the most profitable varieties, since cultivation in long-tiered greenhouses is permissible. Almost does not yield root crops, and feathers are formed in just 25-40 days and grow up to 45 cm. The yield is 4 kg / 1m 2.
  • ... In its characteristics, it resembles onions, but differs in the structure and type of bulb. In one nest, up to 10 lobes are formed, each of which gives its own shoot. Feathers reach a length of 30 cm, which is a good indicator among varieties. Productivity - up to 4 kg / 1m 2.
  • ... In the process of growth, it forms wide and tasty feathers that grow on an edible shoot. Usually this variety is planted from seeds, therefore it is used only for obtaining greenery. Productivity is one of the lowest among all species - up to 2 kg / 1m2.
  • Onion. Used for industrial and private cultivation. It is recommended to choose southern varieties for sale, since they have the shortest ripening period. If you use intensive cultivation technologies, you can achieve yields up to 15 kg / 1m2.
  • ... In the first year of planting, it is used for growing greens, for the next year it gives a good harvest of white bulbs.

Elan onion is a very early variety. In addition to large bulbs, it is not whimsical to care for.

When choosing a variety or hybrid of onions for growing for sale, you need to take into account the peculiarities of growing, as well as the method of planting. The largest amount of greens in a short time can be obtained only when planting a variety with a short dormant period in greenhouse conditions.
Cultivation technologies

To grow onions for sale, two techniques are used - getting seedlings from seeds and planting last year's small bulbs (sets). Both methods have features that should be taken into account:

  1. ... They can be purchased or prepared on your own by waiting for the feathers to ripen last season. Before planting, they must be checked and treated with a disinfectant. Usually, the seeds are sown in rows at intervals of up to 10 cm. It should be remembered that the growing season for seed planting will increase to 4 months, and the greens will be thin and short, since all the nutrients go to the formation of the bulb.
  2. Sevok. This is the fastest way to grow onions. The growing season is 45 to 60 days, depending on the variety. The sevok can be planted in a ribbon (in a row) or more productive way (with a maximum planting density, the bulbs touch each other).

The algorithm for growing onions for sale is no different from the usual method. Regular watering, top dressing, as well as weeding of vegetable beds are required.

Cultivation methods for home and industrial conditions

There are several methods for growing onions for sale, each with their own pros and cons. Its choice depends on the climatic conditions in your region, the variety, horticultural skills and the required ripening rate.

Landing in open ground

The longest and most labor-intensive method of growing onions for sale, requiring a spacious, developed plot with fertile soil. The first planting must be carried out immediately after the end of the frost, but with this method, both sowing and seeds can be used. It is recommended to choose Dutch or Japanese early maturing varieties as seed. Depending on the region, in one season, you can get up to 3 harvests of greens with little financial cost.

Greenhouse: greens, onions on a feather in winter

The planting time of the first batch does not depend on weather conditions, since the greenhouse allows you to harvest all year round. By using early maturing varieties and tiers indoors, you can achieve maximum profitability even in a limited area. The main disadvantage of this method is the need for investments in greenhouse equipment.

Any type of onion can be used in greenhouse conditions, but it is recommended to choose hybrids with a short dormant period so as not to slow down the growing process.

Hydroponics: Profitable For Growing For Sale

Growing onions using hydroponics

The main disadvantage of this method is the high cost of arranging a hydroponic plant, but if there is a sales market, all costs will pay off within 1-2 years.

Aeroponics

With this method of growing, no substrate is used at all, which completely excludes interaction with dirt and infection with diseases and pests. Plants are placed in special containers so that the root system is in the air. Plant nutrition is carried out with the help of constant irrigation of the roots of fertilizers in aerosol form, which contributes to the rapid saturation with oxygen and other necessary elements. Aeroponics allows you to achieve maximum yields in a limited space in a short time.

If you are planning to get serious about growing onions for sale, then it is recommended to immediately invest in a hydroponic plant or use aeroponics.

conclusions

In recent years, the business of growing certain types of plants, in a garage, basement or on a large scale, has been gaining in popularity. Among them, turnip and onion are in special demand, as it is a stable and unpretentious crop that can be easily grown in winter. Even before planting, you should develop a detailed business plan, think over ways to sell products. The profitability depends on the way the onions are grown, the climate in the region and the market conditions in your area.
