Interested in remote work. Why do I only work remotely. Pros and cons of remote work for an employer

I am convinced that teleworking is the future of our planet. Not in isolated manifestations, as is happening now, but on the scale of the entire population of the Earth. Today, technologies are developing at a breakneck speed, and sometimes it seems to all of us that we are the heroes of some futuristic book.

Technological progress is stunning, amazing, inspiring and frightening at the same time. But one thing can be said with absolute certainty: never before has a person had so many opportunities in any sphere of life. This is especially true of work - the main component of human life. In this article, I want to take a closer look at the consciousness-changing phenomenon of the 21st century - the possibility of remote work.

What is remote work

It would seem that everyone understands that remote work is when an employee is not tied to his workplace and performs his professional function “remotely”. The opportunity to work remotely appeared with the development of the Internet, when participants in the intellectual labor market realized that it was possible to transfer the results of work and receive new tasks using a computer and a global network, without having to sit at a specific table in a specific office.

The concept of remote work was developed by American Jack Nilles. In 1972, he expressed the idea that it is not necessary to keep employees in the office, since modern means of communication allow you to maintain contact between employees at a distance. The authorities showed interest in developing the idea of remote work, seeing in it a solution to transport problems that were acute in cities. The new organization of labor could make it possible to resolve these issues, and at the same time provide jobs for the population of remote rural areas.

Nevertheless, in many cases, people who work remotely are still looked at with a squint, identifying them with anything, but only with not honest labor. Most people do not understand the phrase "remote work" at all, despite the fact that this same majority uses all the benefits of the Internet every day.

Believe me, I know this firsthand. Every other day we are asked: “How do you work remotely? Do you have your own business? What do you do? How exactly do you make money? " People seem to have the impression that teleworking is for a select few. This is not true! Remote work is not a business, not a hack or a deception. It's just that people are divided into two types: those for whom the Internet is entertainment, and sometimes a time killer, and those for whom the Internet is a sea of opportunities and a tool for making money.

Remote work is a routine job with an employment contract, schedule, days off, paid leave, bosses and subordinates, workdays, stresses and deadlines. Everything is like a classic work in the office, only outside the office.

How remote work differs from freelancing

I noticed that many people confuse remote work and freelancing. Nikita is often called a freelancer, although he is not. In fact, remote work and freelancing have only one thing in common - the Internet as a way of communication. Everything.

The word "freelancer" literally translates from English freelancer as a "free worker". This means that a freelancer is not affiliated with any company, he works for different companies, different clients, and is looking for them on his own. Perhaps a freelancer is registered as an individual entrepreneur, he has his own website where he describes his services, or the fame of him goes on the Internet, and clients find him themselves. Perhaps he is an active participant in such specialized sites as fl.ru or freelance.ru where customers and performers of any service find each other.

Freelancer is in free flight, he does not have a schedule, a boss, a team, and most often he does not have a permanent job. There are different projects - one to five to twenty a month - that bring him income. It already depends on the specialization and authority of the specialist. Remote worker has a permanent contract with one company, fixed working hours and fixed monthly salaries. He is not free in the choice of projects and tasks, he does what his manager tells him. Perhaps he himself leads someone. Indeed, today there are whole "distributed" teams where all employees work from different cities and even countries.

Why remote work and making money on the Internet are two different things

There is another big confusion in concepts. And I really want to dot the i's. What is remote work, you already understood. Now let's figure out what making money on the Internet is.

Working on the Internet means performing certain actions that are profitable, but the process of work and the results of labor do not go beyond the virtuality. I will not consider all possible ways to make money on the Internet, I will give only examples. There are special sites where any Internet user can complete tasks and receive money for them: put likes, leave comments, subscribe to publics; in addition, there are sensational binary options and other financial transactions, understanding which you can get money; there are all kinds of information products - courses, lectures, e-books, whose authors also earn.

What is the difference from remote work and from freelancing? The Internet in such work is not just a communication tool, but directly material for earning money. Roughly speaking, remote work and freelancing are possible without the Internet.- specialists perform the task at home (for example, they do cadastral calculations or accounting reports) and personally bring them to the office on a flash drive or send documents by mail. No internet needed. Namely, "making money on the Internet" without the Internet is not possible.

Remote work myths

Myth 1. It is very difficult to find a remote job.

Reality: Finding a remote job is as difficult as finding a regular job. It all depends on your knowledge, experience, personal qualities, goals, etc. For remote positions, you also need to pass interviews, tests, show a portfolio.

Myth 2. Remote work is not for everyone.

Reality: The distance labor market is developing every day. I am sure that in a couple of years, even typically “applied” professions such as doctors, teachers and even cleaners will find themselves in remote work. The range of remote vacancies is much wider than we used to think.

Myth 3. Remote workers earn less than office workers.

Reality: Perhaps at the dawn of remote work as a phenomenon, such discrimination took place. This is not the case now.

Myth 4. A teleworker cannot build a career.

Reality: If you understand the main thesis of this article, then this myth is no longer relevant for you. A telecommuter is a regular worker, and if he is worthy of a promotion, he will be promoted.

Pros and cons of remote work for an employee

pros Minuses
Freedom of movement: a remote employee can work at home, in a park, in a cafe, on the beach, and travel the world. The constant search for a good internet: any fabulous place to work can be hell for a remote employee if the internet is bad.
A comfortable workplace: a warm bed with hot cocoa, a hammock between palm trees, the sound of the surf - anything for your inspiration. You can work naked, in pajamas, without makeup or hair. The cost of water, toilet paper, electricity and internet is your concern, the company does not pay for it. Also, you yourself provide yourself with the equipment you need to work.
Saving travel time and fees: no need to get to the office with traffic jams or the subway. Plus - no morning stress. The time saved can be spent on family, self-education and recreation. There will be no more cheerful drunken corporate parties with colleagues. Although, for some, this is a plus.
There are no unnecessary distractions from the work process: a colleague at the next table will not be bothered with jokes, and you can no longer devote your lunch break to discussing a New Year's gift for your boss. You will not have New Year or any other gifts. On the other hand, a noisy cafe can also interfere with your productive work.
If you are an introvert, then it is impossible to imagine a job that is more ideal for you.If you are an extrovert, then you will miss the communication over a cup of tea, group gags and the opportunity to make new friends. Although you can also make friends remotely.

Pros and cons of remote work for an employer

pros Minuses
A remote employee is more motivated: he does not have to sit in the office for eight hours. He completes his tasks, the faster he completes them, the more personal time he will have. As practice shows, more often remote employees work even more than eight hours, tk. they are passionate about the task and want to complete it.Setting up a competent work of a "distributed" team is not so easy. It is necessary to carefully consider the system of reports, communications, online scheduling and so on.
The choice of an applicant is not limited to one city: you can choose the most talented specialist in the industry to your team, even if he lives in another country. The HR department must be ready for the formalization procedure for remote employees. This entails additional operations, for example, sending a contract, processing money transfers, etc.
Saving costs on renting a workplace and wear and tear of equipment, as well as other accompanying expenses: a remote employee bears the costs, for example, for a computer breakdown. If the employer does not provide the employee with the necessary equipment, he has no right to demand certain things. For example, in the event of force majeure: a computer breakdown, a power outage or an earthquake in the place where an employee works, work will be temporarily suspended, and this must always be borne in mind.

Ways to find remote work

For most people, finding a remote job is an unknown mystical ritual, seasoned with wild dances and joining the sect of a select few. Many have told me that remote work is only available to residents of megalopolises, although the idea of remote work just breaks any geolocation link. Let's take a look at three main ways to find a remote job.

  1. Talk to your boss. Perhaps he wants to transfer you to a remote position with a visit to the office once a week, and then completely without participating in weekly planning meetings. Personally, we had such an experience, it works in practice. Even if your company doesn't have a single remote employee yet, you can be a trailblazer.
  2. Browse numerous job search sites. Even on the same HH.ru, more than 12 thousand remote vacancies are available today. There are specialized sites for finding a remote job. I will write about them in a separate article, tk. I have a pretty good base of cool resources.
  3. Contact specialized specialists who professionally prepare people for remote work, help to retrain, if necessary, advise, train and help with employment. Today there are many free consultants for remote work, as well as webinars, books, articles in which experts share the secrets of finding a remote job.
If you are really interested in working remotely, but absolutely do not know where to start, I advise you to pay attention to. RD2 is one of the most dynamically developing companies in the field of online training for remote work. The company was founded in 2012, and today it is an international organization that trains Russian-speaking people from more than 30 countries on five continents to work remotely. The company's team consists of 65 people, and all employees work remotely from different parts of the world.

The company conducts unique trainings that help people find their strengths and use them to make money in a new field for themselves. Company motto: "There is remote work for everyone" that I completely share.

Conclusion

Remote work allows you to manage your life, gives you more freedom, more opportunities, and this is exactly what the average mid-level manager in any country dreams of. Large multinational corporations have long been practicing partially remote working hours for their employees, and young effective startups generally rarely consider standard offices as a space for a workflow.

In Russia, remote work, as a phenomenon, is just beginning its journey. In big cities, more and more companies are opening remote positions, and people are increasingly striving for just such a job. But in our mentality, such a strange approach to work still does not fit. This is evidenced by numerous misunderstandings, myths and stereotypes regarding remote work.

Unfortunately, I have not found any polls or specific statistics on this matter. Only from personal experience, I can say that among young people around the world, remote work is not just a fashion trend, but the most acceptable way of life in which work, family, travel, leisure and hobbies are combined in a balanced way.

I have been collecting information and my thoughts on this for a long time, so the article turned out to be long. I hope you take it as a basis for reflection and your own conclusions, and not as the ultimate truth. Share in the comments what do you think about remote work? Do you have a similar experience? What would you add to my thesis?

Most of us are used to working for our uncle. We live according to the “home-work-home” scheme, or, more precisely, “home-traffic jams-work-traffic jams-home”. Sometimes on weekends I manage to meet friends or get out “into the world” with the whole family. Vacation - according to the schedule, getting sick and doing personal affairs at a convenient, usually working, time is generally not recommended.

Pros and cons of remote work

Not everyone is ready to put up with these shortcomings and limitations. Therefore, in recent years, such a form of work as, or teleworking at home.

It should be noted that the concept of remote work was invented by the American Jack Nilles back in 1972. Even then, the existing means of communication allowed employers to maintain contact with employees at a distance. After 7 years, the term “flexiplace” was coined - “flexible workplace”.

Now, thanks to the development of the Internet, a huge number of people around the world work and earn money without leaving their homes. These are men and women, retirees and students, mothers with babies in their arms and professionals who are tired of the daily long trips to work. There are many types of teleworking from home. And everyone, be it a highly qualified specialist or a person with little work experience, can choose a suitable option for themselves.

Modern businessmen willingly hire remote employees into their teams. This is very beneficial: you do not need to rent a room, buy furniture and office equipment, or hire service personnel. All the work is done by people living in different parts of the world. If at the same time the work of remote employees is organized competently, then the company's clients will not even understand that the staff does not work in a single office, but at home in comfortable conditions and according to an individual schedule.

Pros of remote work

  • No need to waste time and money traveling to and from work.
  • Free work schedule.
  • You can live where you want (and there is the Internet).
  • Your own boss: you can freely dispose of working time, prices for services and work with customers of your own choice.
  • There is no need to be afraid that the employer will refuse because of age, gender, appearance or the presence of small children.
  • You can work for people with disabilities and poor health.
  • It is possible to find a job where communication with people will be minimized (for some, this is very important).

Cons of remote work

  • Self-discipline and high responsibility must be maintained.
  • Career prospects are not always clear.
  • Problems with excess weight and health in general due to low mobility, heavy eye strain, lack of motivation to look good.
  • In some regions, internet may be expensive and / or slow.
  • Limitation of "live" communication with colleagues (although the "minus" is doubtful).
  • You need to spend your own money and time on setting up a remote workplace.
  • There is a certain risk of running into scammers.

By the way, since 2013, Russia has provided for the legal regulation of remote work... According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, teleworking is officially called teleworking. And an employment contract for teleworking can now be concluded not in paper form, but signed using an electronic signature. This allows you to find formal work from home and reduce the risk of fraud from employers.

If you are attracted by the “pluses” of remote work at home via the Internet and are not embarrassed by the “minuses”, then you may well find yourself a remote job to your liking and in accordance with your abilities, including as a part-time job.

Next time we will talk about the most demanded online professions on the market and about what parameters it is possible or part-time work at home to.

Remember the words of Confucius: "Find a job you like and you won't have to work a day in your life."

To better understand what remote work is, watch a short video about people successfully working on the Internet. They share their feelings about the new form of work, talk about what has changed for the better in their lives.

Based on the book "24 Internet Professions, or How to Work Without Leaving Your Home".

Good afternoon friends.

just the other day I tried to record a video clip on this topic, made 15-20 attempts. But in the end, each of them ended in failure. And all because during my performances so many thoughts came into my head that in the end it turned out to be a mess.

Today I decided to write a detailed article so that, firstly, it would serve as a cheat sheet for me, and, secondly, I think it would be interesting for someone to read it and comment on it.

In general, let's go.

1. Free work schedule

I can’t say for others, but for me it’s just an incredible plus. After all, I always have the opportunity at any moment to break loose and go or go wherever I wish. I'm not talking about getting enough sleep yet. Having a free work schedule, you can do your business at any time of the day, someone is more active in the morning, someone during the day, well, and someone at night.

Ideally, of course, do not forget about the usefulness of sleep at night, but still the freedom of choice remains with us.

2. Absence of an evil boss

For many and for me personally, this is a huge plus when someone does not stand above their hearts and does not force them to do faster and better. Of course, working remotely, there will still be customers, but the boss and the customer are completely different people. In my practice, customers have always communicated with me extremely politely, but the bosses made a fuss literally out of nothing.

Let's take a simple example: We are doing work and literally for 10 minutes are distracted from it in order to rest. And, as luck would have it, it is at this moment that we catch our eyes and, at best, everything is dispensed with with a condemning look. Working as a freelancer, you have complete freedom of action, the main thing is to hand over the order on time.

3. You can work remotely

Without a doubt, this is one of the biggest benefits of working remotely. If you want to work from home, if you want, you can go anywhere in the world and work from there, the main thing is that you have a computer and the Internet at hand.

Now you can save time and money on the road to work. You can eat good homemade food and, again, save on expensive fast foods. By the way, usually in the morning, when you go to work, your nerves also suffer, especially when there is a crush in transport.

4. Education is faster and cheaper

To reach a high income, let's say, 50 thousand rubles a month, it is not at all necessary to study at the university for 5 years. Thank God, everything is much simpler here. Let's just say that it is quite possible to master the profession of a layout designer in a year of study and practice. If you take something more serious, for example, programming, then in a couple of years you can also reach a decent level and then only grow financially and professionally.

And that's not all, learning a profession on the Internet can be much cheaper than in the state. institution. Moreover, with a strong desire, you can study any freelance profession for free, because the Internet is full of free information on any topic. I will say more, for every online profession there are hundreds of training courses and schools where knowledge is given either free of charge or for a penny.

5. Gradually flows into your business

Take my blog and my video blog for example. What directions did I need to know in order to create all this? Let's take the most basic ones:

  • Skills - Ability to write articles;
  • Designer / layout skills - design for the site and all the banners I made myself;
  • Marketing skills - to promote my resources;
  • Video editing and speaker skills - for recording video clips and editing them;
  • And a bunch of other little things ...

If you wish, you, over time, acquire additional knowledge, in addition to the main direction. The more this knowledge base is, the more you will understand business on the Internet and will be able to discover something of your own. For example, to keep the same blog and share your knowledge in your profession in it, is it difficult? But in the end, the blog will become a good source of income.

Working from home is a pretty interesting activity. Reviews about this type of employment of the working-age population can now be found absolutely everywhere. But which of them are not real, and which are not? In truth, this can be very difficult to judge. After all, each person at home can perform completely different tasks. And with all this, he may not be able to do what others do. Hence, disagreements arise. Plus, work from home, the reviews of which we are now learning, includes various vacancies. And different types of fraud. Let's try to understand how real the dreams of earning money within the home are.

Assembling the handles

The first option that can only be found is the work of assembling pens at home. Reviews of this vacancy are now literally overwhelming the world wide web. But before we know them, let's figure out what we have to do with you.

Our only task is to collect ballpoint pens at home. And then send them to the customer. Working as a pen collector at home, the reviews of which we will learn a little later, as a rule, guarantees quick and good earnings without stress. It is enough to work only 4 hours a day. All materials are sent to your home, and you collect them into a finished product. Next, send it to the return address and wait for payment.

That's all. This is the work of assembling the pens at home. The reviews here are, to be honest, negative. After all, we are dealing with a very subtle fraud. The first thing that the employer will ask is to pay an insurance premium (from 250 rubles). He justifies his demands by the fact that unscrupulous workers have already taken the order, and then disappeared. You will also be reimbursed for insurance on the first job. And so every time. But as soon as you transfer the money, the employer disappears. Thus, work from home (pens) receives extremely negative reviews. They are written exclusively by deceived users. This is how scammers make money on people's naivety.

Of course, work at home collector sometimes gets both suspiciously strange and positive reviews. Do not believe such words - they were written either by the employer, or the fraudster paid someone to form a whole "package" of flattering words about the vacancy. As you can see, work from home (assembly) received not very good reviews. But there are still so many vacancies! Which ones? Let's try to figure it out.

PC operator

For example, a second very popular job is for a home-based PC operator. Similar announcements can be found now everywhere and everywhere. So, let's try to figure out with you what's what here.

The job is said to require simple home typing with editing. You will have to retype the handwritten text (or photographed, printed on paper), then edit according to the rules and send it to the customer. This work from home has received mixed reviews. Why? Let's try to figure it out.

The point is that the material for work will be sent to your home. Doesn't it look like anything? And, of course, you will have to pay the insurance premium again. How do you think it will all end? By deception, of course. After all, working as a PC operator is another fraud.

However, this is not always the case. You can try to contact the prints and ask if they need a typesetter. If the answer is yes, then you can get a job with them. There will not be required any investments, and earnings will be credited quickly and to the card (or in cash). If the publishing house is in your city, you can personally pick up the printed text or order a courier delivery. As a last resort - to receive by mail. And that is why reviews of PC operators are mixed. But mostly negative. They are also written by deceived people. In general, it is better to refrain from this vacancy, so as not to be "off the hook."

Sales Manager

In truth, teleworking does exist. For example, a sales manager is a very popular job for all ages. You just have to look for customers and make purchases on specialized sites (online stores). And your employer will pay a small salary for this (about 5,000 - 6,000 rubles), as well as 10% of the order amount.

This kind of remote work from home is already receiving positive reviews. True, the user's income will depend solely on the intensity of work and the search for clients. Do you know how to sell? Then this activity is right for you. If the salary is sufficient, then you can simply place several orders per month - and all problems will be solved.

Usually, sales managers meet on social networks - there they have working pages that redirect to the online store. To be honest, it is very convenient. Only a few workers complain about a lot of competition. Nevertheless, the reviews are generally positive. They do not require any investment from you, and, as a rule, they give a discount on the purchase of goods from the employer.

Operator

There is also such work at home, reviews of which are available on almost all review sites. This is nothing more than a home operator. In truth, this position is not for everyone. In particular, such work is done by those who have the opportunity to talk with the help of a computer during the day. And usually girls are hired for this position.

You go through a little training and then do your job using Skype. This is either performing "hot" or making "cold" calls for the purpose of advertising and selling any services. Quite often, you simply inform customers about new products, as well as ongoing promotions. It is the operator without sales that is the most profitable and successful offer. True, you can earn in this way, as people say, about 15,000 rubles.

But in cases of working as an operator for the purpose of selling services, in addition to the salary, you will receive 10% of the order amount. So some people manage to earn 50,000 rubles a month. This is work from home without investment, reviews of which are only encouraging. Nevertheless, it is not suitable for shy people, as well as those who do not want to "shove" a potential client with a product. Plus, if you don't have the ability to talk using a computer, you can forget about the job.

Sale of "handmade"

There is also a job that involves selling your own product. In other words, handicrafts. This is called "handmade". All you need is to create the product for sale yourself, and then find buyers. As a rule, sales go well using social media.

This work from home has received good reviews. If you have "golden hands", then you can easily make furniture, dishes, jewelry, toys, clothes, works of art and interior design, and then sell them over the Internet. Plus, if things go uphill, you can always make something specific, to order.

True, one should not expect mountains of gold right away - it takes time to make a good income. Although the average initial income, as a rule, people have in this business is about 10,000 rubles. Not much, but stable. And with great success, some are able to receive both 50,000 and 60,000 each. Everything depends only on you. And there is no deception here.

How much to work? People say it also depends on each person, individually. Maybe it will take you 4 hours to work, or maybe a week. Depending on the nature of the handicraft and its cost. Nevertheless, many are generally engaged in this occupation, without interrupting their daily activities.

Sales of cosmetics

Cosmetics are what every woman needs. And therefore, our next rather successful vacancy is a cosmetics salesman. This is a very popular work from home. Reviews about her are spread all over the Internet. Moreover, they are positive.

You will have to place orders for cosmetics from a certain company. Usually, social networks are used to simplify the search for customers. After you place an order, then from it you get about 10% in your pocket. Plus a salary. It ranges from 6,000 to 12,000 rubles. And, of course, the total monthly income depends only on you.

It should be borne in mind that the employee will receive a discount when buying a product that he sells himself. This makes many girls very happy. Sometimes the discount is very big. You should work only about 4 hours a day. The work does not require any investments. True, some sellers complain about the competition and the difficult process of finding customers. Usually I use this vacancy as a part-time job. In case of great success - as the main source of income.

Interpreter

And here is another work from home without cheating. As a rule, few people leave reviews about it. And this is done only because you don't really want to make yourself competitors. After all, we are talking about working as a translator.

The point is that this vacancy is very successful. On the World Wide Web, you can now find quite a lot of "free places". Translations are usually required from either English or German. And the salary of a translator varies from 25,000 rubles to 60,000. Some work 4-6 hours to get the specified amount per month. And, of course, no one wants to make competitors for themselves.

Thus, this work from home rarely receives reviews. But positive. The main thing here is to know languages, as well as to have perseverance. If you are confident in your abilities, then you can try. It's not as scary as it sounds.

Editor

Editor is another very popular job on the World Wide Web. And, to be honest, it does not require any investment from you. Also this "place" gets the best reviews. After all, all that is required of you is to edit the text and then send it to the customer.

The salary here is usually about 20,000 rubles. And this is taking into account the work of about 4 hours a day. A very good vacancy for women on maternity leave, or those involved in education. And with modern tools for working with text on a computer, working as an editor becomes more than simple. Most applications automatically fix errors and also offer you possible options for the development of events. In addition, some simply underline suspicious passages of the test, drawing particular attention to them.

Payments are made once a month. The only complaint about which you can see is that you have to really work these 4 hours. That is, "kicking the bulldozer" will not work. After all, you will be paid exactly for the work performed. However, this is not a problem for a conscientious worker.

Teacher

Teachers and teachers are needed everywhere now. So this vacancy became available even remotely. Distance education is exactly what gave the main impetus for creating such vacancies.

There are two options here: a private teacher or a hired teacher. The second option, as users say, is mainly used in universities. You get exactly the same salary as a teacher, but you teach all lectures at home. It is very convenient for you and your students. But a private teacher has great potential. After all, he can lead not only educational subjects, but also various circles. Here and handicrafts, and carpentry, and learning languages, and cooking - whatever your heart desires.

To be honest, reviews about private teachers say that it is best to recruit whole groups of students. This way you can work less and get more. If in educational institutions a teacher will receive about 15-20 thousand rubles, then a private trader is able to earn 2 times more.

Webmaster

The next vacancy is Webmaster. This employee, as a rule, must create and maintain sites in working order. This used to be a fairly common office job. But now it is possible to work remotely.

This is work from home without cheating. She receives different reviews. As many users emphasize, the main difficulty here is writing the site code. If you are a pro in this business, then you shouldn't even start to worry.

The earnings of a webmaster are decent. Usually for 1 order they take from 10,000 rubles. And with all this, about 60-80 thousand are released per month. Plus site support - about 5,000 rubles. A very profitable but difficult endeavor. It is not suitable for everyone. But the main thing is that this work is safe. And that is why the vacancy receives, for the most part, positive reviews.

Writing texts

The last common web job is writing. Usually limited to copywriting and rewriting. What is it? Let's try to understand this difficult issue.

The first term means writing your own original articles on a specific topic. The second is the processing of the finished text into your own, with high uniqueness. In other words, we are talking about writing articles to order. This work from home has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. After all, there is no deception, fees or any special conditions. Just find a customer, agree on payment (for 1,000 printed characters, they usually take 30-40 rubles), and then do your job.

How much is required for this lesson? From 4 hours. This time is enough to earn 15,000 a month. More is possible. People are advised to look for orders on special sites. They are called freelance or copywriting / rewriting exchanges.

As you can see, work from home exists. The main thing is to know what to look for. Finding something suitable for yourself is not so difficult as it might seem at first glance. Set a goal for yourself and move towards it - success will surely await you. The main thing is to remember that working at home as a collector gets negative reviews and is a deception. Also, don't forget about other types of virtual fraud. And then you will succeed.

Building software for startups is a big undertaking. Not because writing software itself is difficult, but because most startups have far from optimal places to do this kind of work. In my more than 10 years of experience as a startup software developer, I have learned to distrust employers' ability to provide me with an adequate work environment, and this prevents me from doing the best job for them. I am, by nature, ambitious, energetic, and I do not want anything more than to give out at the place where I work, the best that i can... I give myself 100% to the company I work for. But in most places where I have worked, a lot has been done to prevent me from doing so. That is why at some point in time I took a clear position: from now on, I will only work “remotely”.

Open offices

Most startups nowadays are obsessed with the idea of an open office environment, and it is nearly impossible to find companies that do not implement this type of placement. They claim to strive to create an “open and transparent environment,” but if you know anything about the heart of the matter, then you know that this is the worst environment for real work, and does not improve communication or culture in any way. You don't have to look far to find a lot of research on this subject - and frankly, there is simply nothing to discuss here. There is no evidence to support the hypothesis that building an "open office" provides a more collaborative environment. And, of course, office managers, directors, and founders selectively ignore the mountains of evidence to refute this hypothesis.

This is one of the real tragedies of the startup world. It is difficult to assess how many startups are being held back by obsession and conformity with an open office environment. The cost of the mental health of employees who are forced to stay in these insane asylums every day should also be taken into account. While startups continue to swallow, chew, and spit out / burn out young talent, there is very little hope for wisdom in this area to help solve problems like this. The words David Heinemeier Hanssen, creator of Ruby On Rails: "An open office layout leads to constant interruptions, serious privacy violations and disastrous performance degradation."

Working hours

I am an owl. You can tell me that I have to sit in a chair within your line of sight at 8 or 9 in the morning, but trust me, it will be very wasteful. You will waste my time and yours. I'm not a morning person. I start working at full strength only after 11 in the morning and actually get down to business in the afternoon or evening. If you make me work in preferred For you hours, then both the employer and the employee will suffer losses from this. You will get less from me! The following is the cycle I go through when I have to start work in the office at 9 am:
  • I force myself to get up early and rush to work feeling ill prepared.
  • I try to focus and be effective in the morning, but the struggle and the day that started so poorly kills my mood and impulse.
  • After lunch, I feel tired and unable to work efficiently during my peak hours. I drink liters of coffee trying to whip up my productivity.
  • I go home when, finally, things are just starting to unfold.
  • I am restlessly tossing and turning in bed and cannot sleep because I drank too much coffee and worry about oversleeping.
  • By the end of the week, I'm tired, frustrated, angry and frustrated with my giving.
It is a vicious cycle that is extremely detrimental to my mental health and living conditions. This is an area where science is very clear: people are "larks" and "owls." The employer must accept his employees as they are and optimize the working conditions according to their abilities. I feel like an owl, I have always been an owl and I will always be an owl. I tried to work in the morning - it was a waste of time, because at this time of day my productivity is low and I make more mistakes. Now I am only willing to consider job offers where I can manage my own working hours. This does not mean that I am a lazy person or a bum. Not at all - it upsets me when I can't get my best performance out of the way, and so from now on I won't accept anything other than this approach.

Who is against ROWE?

The ROWE (Results-Only Work Environment) is a fantastic system to use wherever employees are processing information. It is necessary to measure the products given out by employees, not the amount of time they spend in the office. I refuse to work in places with such a cynical view of my employees. If you truly believe that your employees won't work, if you can't look over their shoulder at the display for control, then you have the wrong approach to the relationship with your employees (especially in a startup). It is necessary to hire people who are passionate about their work and believe in the mission of the company. If your employees relax when you are not watching them, then this means that your company has a disease and you have discovered a symptom of it. It is impossible to suppress this symptom and expect the disease to be cured. More on this later (remove support systems and let problem workers show up).

In the case of working from home / teleworking, some employees may not be able to work well from home or they just don't like it. That's great - but you have to trust your employees and treat them accordingly, like adults. Let them make decisions for themselves. Remove support (such as the extra wheels on a children's bicycles) and allow them to fall. If they cannot succeed when no one interferes in their affairs, then why do you think that they will work successfully with a nanny?

Employees' attitudes towards work do not improve when they are constantly monitored by their supervisor. Rather, the opposite is true.
